This vanilla modpack using Fabric contains some essentials I'd recommend for both server and client side. I've primarily constructed this modpack to play on my server for our discord.

Sodium / Lithium - Optimizations server / client sided
Simple Voice Chat - simple proximity voice chat
Sleep - Requires only certain amount of players to sleep
ViaFabric - Any version minecraft can join (as long as the mods are the same)
Iris Shaders - Shaders
EmoteCraft - Custom emotes
AppleSkin - HUD improvements
