Fantastic Frontier

by MatuLives · on CurseForge

Dark Fantasy RPG with Tech. Free Minecraft Java modpack for 1.20.1, 1.18.2.

Which Minecraft do you have?

Every version of the game needs its own build. Pick yours, then download — the wrong build installs fine and then does nothing in the game. This mod is built for Forge only.

⬇ Download for 1.20.1⬇ Download for 1.18.2
I don't know my version or loader
Open the Minecraft launcher and look at the profile you play on — it names both, like fabric-loader-1.21.4. The version also shows in the bottom-right corner of the game's main menu.
No loader in the profile name? Then it's plain Minecraft, and these mods won't run — you need Fabric or NeoForge installed first.

A custom Minecraft 1.20.1 RPG world built over five years of development.

Fantastic Frontier is a handcrafted modpack with its own town, economy, guild work, dungeons, class systems, orbital threats, custom tech, altered endgame, and original systems built specifically for this... Fantastic Frontier.

This is not a random mod list with quests taped onto it. You arrive in a world with history under the ground, machinery in the sky, and several problems that have been waiting longer than you have.

SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT

Fantastic Frontier is free to play, but it is not small to build.

Support helps cover server costs, development time, commissioned work, custom assets, testing, bug fixing, and the amount of time I can realistically keep putting into the project.

Main Features

Deep system note:
A lot of Fantastic Frontier is built through custom KubeJS systems and custom mod work rather than just config changes. The pack includes custom economy data, quest logic, class progression, machines, medical systems, orbital events, GUI work, tooltip systems, and pack-specific mechanics that exist specifically for this world. Translations for other languages will be worked on as well.

Little Hope - the central hub of the Frontier.

LITTLE HOPE IS NOT JUST A SPAWN

Little Hope is the spine of Fantastic Frontier.

It is a town full of traders, NPCs, services, questlines, progression hooks, and systems that keep pulling you back from the wilderness.

Your dungeon loot comes back here. Your money moves through here. Your guild work starts here. Your place in the Frontier begins here. Every single new playthrough will always begin through here, there are many valueable traders and with every new playthrough you will probably find new ones.

The pack is built so exploration, money, reputation, gear, danger/heat, and story keep returning to Little Hope instead of scattering into disconnected modded clutter.

Big Raku

Big Raku turns almost anything you drag back from the world into money.

A REAL ECONOMY

Fantastic Frontier has a custom economy built around Big Raku.

The current sell table contains over 28,000 priced item and block entries, letting almost anything in the modpack become part of your progression.

That changes the basic loop:

  1. Explore the world
  2. Bring back what you can carry
  3. Sell what you do not need
  4. Spend money in town
  5. Push deeper into the Frontier

Junk from a dungeon run is not always junk. Mining leftovers are not always dead weight. Strange drops can become money. Money feeds back into traders, rare goods, materials, upgrades, and progression items. Better yet, there is also a stockmarket system built into Big Raku.

Economy note:
Big Raku is designed to reduce the usual modded problem where half your loot becomes storage clutter. The goal is to make more of the pack feed back into progression instead of becoming dead inventory weight.

Quest Book

Quest book, guild jobs, task tiers, questlines, and reputation

GUILD WORK, SLAYER TASKS, AND REPUTATION

Fantastic Frontier uses a large custom quest book, guild reputation, delivery contracts, encounter missions, and Slayer-style task tiers to give the world structure.

Some work is simple, and it developers into harder work:

The Frontier has people who need things done, places that need clearing, enemies that need names, and rewards that make the trip matter. Inspired by my favorite RPG-like anime such as Goblin Slayer.

THE FRONTIER CODEX

Classes That Actually Change the Run

Fantastic Frontier includes a custom RPG class framework built for the pack.

The system tracks class identity, Field Study experience, mastery stages, rebirths, universal attributes, skill trees, ultimates, branch classes, limit break progression, and long-term character growth.

Current Class Routes

Each class is meant to feel like a different way of belonging to the Frontier.

Doomed clarification:
Doomed is not a global survival overhaul forced onto every player. It is one optional class route. The WITNESS diagnostics, body simulation, treatment systems, trauma logic, and collapse states exist because that one class needed to feel fundamentally wrong instead of merely harder.

Titan

NEMESIS does not behave like a normal boss. It watches sectors, reads heat, escalates doctrine, and punishes infrastructure.

NEMESIS: THE SKY STARTS KEEPING SCORE

NEMESIS can watch, hunt, lock down, escalate, and commit heavier doctrine as your sector becomes more interesting. It checks for players congregating around the world and locks them down. It escalates severely if you start looting Warium dungeons such as Oil Rigs or Warium Encampments, this is made so that players who prefer playing peacefully essentially never have to worry about Nemesis so long they stay in their lane of being a peaceful/neutral player.

Things that can matter

It is an orbital campaign layer. Your base can become evidence. Your machines can make the sky look twice. Countermeasures exist, but they are not free wins. Signal jammers, decoys, reinforced cover, and buried shelter can buy time. Bad decisions can make the attention worse.

NEMESIS note:
The intent is to make late-game industry feel powerful but unsafe. If the player builds loud enough, hot enough, or exposed enough, the sky should eventually start feeling like part of the enemy roster. A lot of this heat can be avoided by not killing Warium machines or looting their 'dungeons/bases' in the first place though.

FRONTIER WORKS

Custom Tech Built for the Pack

Fantastic Frontier includes its own tech foundation through Frontier Works.

This system adds custom machines, components, fluids, hatches, buses, recipes, GUI work, multiblock validation, JEI integration, and a projector tool for building machine structures.

Current Frontier Works Systems

The goal is to make technology feel like part of the Frontier’s world instead of another imported machine list. This is heavily inspired by Gregtech progression and Thermal Foundation UI.

ENTROPI

Apotheosis Pushed Into Containment

Fantastic Frontier adds its own Entropi layer onto Apotheosis enchanting.

Entropi is a pressure system around enchanting tables, marked artifacts, illegal enchantment steps, stabilizing structures, chamber quality, and containment infrastructure.

It adds Entropi readouts to enchanting screens and tooltips, plus Jade integration where available.

Entropi Structure Blocks

This has been made to no longer make it so that Reaper 7, Sharpness 8 etc. are easily obtained and put on a one-shotting miracle weapon.

DOOMED

One Optional Class With an Entire Body System Behind It

Doomed is a completely optional class.

It is not a mandatory medical overhaul. It is not something every player has to deal with. You choose it, and the class drags you into a different kind of survival. Perhaps... you will even be rewarded for it once your transformation completes...

WITNESS Diagnostics

The WITNESS diagnostic tablet tracks vitals such as:

Body-Level Survival

The medical system includes:

Treatment Equipment

DUNGEONS WITH WEIGHT

Fantastic Frontier has custom dungeons, structure loading, world anchors, hidden locations, ritual content, boss work, and handcrafted spaces made for the pack.

Some places are dangerous immediately and you will be rewarded once you deal with the threat, others hide journals, artifacts, old machinery, single-use abilities, buried rooms, or pieces of story that only make sense once the rest of the world starts clicking together. They are not just loot boxes made of stone.

The Godloop has closed us off from everything we used to be.

Statue

The Frontier carries its story through ruins, diaries, NPCs, systems, and the things that refuse to stay buried.

A WORLD WITH ITS OWN VOICE

Fantastic Frontier uses environmental storytelling, diaries, named forces, custom locations, altered encounters, recurring symbols, and strange remnants to make the world feel remembered rather than generated. Some of it is obvious, however some wait until you have played long enough to notice the pattern. The pack is built around the feeling that the Frontier has history beneath it, and not all of that history is dead.

Frontier Storm

The Frontier Storm - a reworked Wither Storm encounter with a stronger identity inside the pack.

ENDGAME THAT DOES NOT STOP AT VANILLA

Fantastic Frontier pushes past ordinary Minecraft progression with custom boss work, altered encounters, stronger presentation, special items, reworked systems, and large-scale threats designed to feel like events rather than recycled milestones.

The Frontier Storm is one of the clearest examples: a reimagined Wither Storm with changed sound work, altered music, a different visual identity, and a stronger place inside the world of the pack.

Requiem

Custom weapons, relic items, special abilities, Epic Fight work, and pack-specific combat systems push the Frontier beyond default modded combat.

COMBAT WITH CUSTOM IDENTITY

Fantastic Frontier uses custom Epic Fight weapon work, class abilities, unique items, altered progression, special encounters, stronger enemies, and handcrafted reward loops to make combat feel connected to the world around it.

A fight should feel like it belongs to the same world as the town, the economy, the dungeons, the machines, and the thing watching from orbit. As I was working on this modpack, some events gave me goosebumps and then I knew it was finally "good enough."

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

Fantastic Frontier is still actively being built.

Development is currently pushing harder into:

Some systems are simple to maintain however it costs a lot of time and my own money to be allowed to work on this.

Support directly affects how much testing, custom asset work, commissioned help, and development time can go into future updates.

Five years of development, rewriting, worldbuilding, testing, and obsessive detail shaped the Frontier into what it is now.

IMPORTANT INFO

All server packs for version 0.1.6x are compatible with any 0.1.6x release. For example, a server pack made for 0.1.65 will also work with 0.1.66.

This does not apply to 0.1.7x and later, since those versions may include mod updates that require a newer server pack.
