Some of Minecraft's more decorative blocks are surprisingly inefficient at doing their job, this resourcepack takes care of that by forcefully tearing these models apart, baking the textures (combining), and stitching them back together.

Performance

Now this isn't a performance mod and cannot do as great of things as they can do. What it can do is gain you a few more frames around your world, for free.

However, under extreme loads, gains are present: Performance comparison of a world with 32 layers of scaffolding showing an increase from 26 to 65 fps. Taken from a world comprising of 32 layers of scaffolding with ticks frozen while at y=100 and looking straight down. Render distance 12.

Compatibility

Due to how this resourcepack works (baking textures and changing model definitions), this will only work well with resourcepacks that don't touch block models or said blocks' textures.

Changes to GUIs are fine, massive ultra-realistic resourcepacks are not. The baked textures will be blaringly obvious and even if the other resourcepack is given priority, changes to block model definitions may break the assumptions that the resourcepacker is making.

Improving the visuals

While this resourcepack makes no changes that should harm the visuals of the game, an unfortunate issue of Minecraft gets exposed when using it.

Gaps may appear in block models, there's nothing I can do about it. Thankfully this is not a major issue and if you're using a mod loader you can install Model Gap Fix by MehVahdJukaar to fix this.

Besides improving the visuals of this resourcepack it has other benefits. Holes in your sword? Gone.

How it works

This resourcepack works by adding additional cullfaces to models where possible and reducing the number of faces that each model contains.

To reduce the faces, a few things are done. First off, simply reusing the current texture with a smarter UV mapping and face arrangement. Secondly baking the textures and using the same face to model a larger area. Thirdly, just removing never seen faces. Like on cakes with candles.

Speaking of cakes, these are all the models that this resourcepack optimizes:
