Bonus Chest+

by lostdoge08 · on Modrinth

Overhauls the Bonus Chest's loot pool to have more variety, but still with a vanilla feel and balance. Free Minecraft Java datapack for 1.20.1, 1.20.2…

Which build do you need?

This mod ships a separate file for every mod loader and every version of the game. Pick both, then download — the wrong build installs fine and then does nothing in the game.

I don't know my version or loader
Open the Minecraft launcher and look at the profile you play on — it names both, like fabric-loader-1.21.4. The version also shows in the bottom-right corner of the game's main menu.
No loader in the profile name? Then it's plain Minecraft, and these mods won't run — you need Fabric or NeoForge installed first.

Modified loot table with a wooden pickaxe, fishing rod, and new foods and materials.

This Data Pack replaces the regular bonus chest loot table, so it is not compatable with other Mods or Data Packs that replace it! Mods or Data Packs that add to it should be fine though. This Data Pack was tested on a Mod Pack with over 250+ Mods, and it functioned fine.

Bonus Chest+ is a simple Data Pack that overhauls the Bonus Chest loot table to have a wider variety of starting items, while still keeping the vanilla feel of starting the world. I'm the type of person who loves starting over from scratch over and over again, and the Bonus Chest helps me get on my feet each run, however the loot pool gets stale rather quickly. I've tried my best to fix that, by items new possibilities, some could be worse than the original bonus chest, and some could be better, but all try to be balanced for a player first starting their Minecraft playthrough!

Different items in the pool have different rarities to be chosen. For example, Wooden Tools show up most frequently, but gold and low-durability iron tools have been thrown into the mix, at a lower spawn rate of course. A Pickaxe is guaranteed (no diamond though, sorry folks), however, the Axe can be switched to a Sword, Shovel, or even a Fishing Rod!

Food is another fun topic, I have put in a wider variety of foods instead of the 3 we have currently. The more powerful they are, the rarer to find. You could even start with a golden apple!.. don't bank on that luck though, they aren't common in the slightest.

To top things off, I've noticed Bedrock's Bonus Chest has gotten a little more love than Java's, with some more items like Seeds and Saplings being able to spawn, so I've made sure to put those Bedrock exclusive spawns into the mix as well, not replacing the spawn chances of the tools, foods, or blocks though!

I hope this Data Pack gives a more varied experience to the start of your world! While the loot may go away quickly, it will at least make a fun impact on the start of your world. If you have any issues or suggestions, contact me on Discord! (@lostdoge08)

Oh yeah, one more thing, make sure to keep an eye out for the super rare (albeit useless) items I've put in. Hopefully, they get you excited when you find them! (don't worry, they are still vanilla and aren't immersion breaking).
