TBM's Geode Series

This datapack adds five new geodes into your Minecraft world containing different ores and raw ore blocks! Currently, those include diamond and lapis ores, as well as gold, iron, and copper raw ore blocks. Take a look at the gallery for examples of such geodes.

When I first created the original datapacks, I realized that the payload of many of these geodes can be considered "too much" and over-rewarding. I have done my best to balance their existence in the game with their rarity so that players can have a decent incentive to explore their world, and to have fun surprises on mining and caving trips. Surely, you would have to be lucky to find one with little-to-no effort!

Customize to your liking!

The internal structure of this datapack is designed for readability and easier customization. I will do my best to explain how to customize this for any who do not have prior knowledge of datapacks and Minecraft's feature system. If you need or would like more resources on such, check out the Minecraft wiki and/or Misode's Worldgen Tools.

Is the rarity of a geode(s) not to your liking? Navigate to the "placed_feature" file(s) of its respective namespace. You will see a "chance" value. This is calculated as 1/"chance" to attempt to spawn in a given chunk, meaning:

• If you would like that geode to spawn less frequently, increase the chance value
• If you want it to spawn more frequently, decrease the chance value.
  • In the case of making a diamond geode more common, I recommend replacing the "rarity_filter" option entirely with "count" (a value which is how many times per chunk will it attempt to spawn), because its spawning requirements cause the geode to fail to spawn very often.
  • Windswept iron geodes already use the "count" calculation for similar reasons to the diamond geode.

If you do not want a specific geode(s) to spawn, you can delete the geode(s)'s reference from the biome file(s).

Where can I find these geodes? How are they balanced?

Gold Geodes

• Spawn in badlands, eroded badlands, and wooded badlands biomes.
• Roughly between y: -16, and y: 56.
• About five times more spaced out as amethyst geodes (in 1.0. In 1.1.0, they are about 7.3 times more spaced out than amethyst geodes).

Copper Geodes

• Spawn in dripstone caves.
• Roughly between y: -48 and y: 56.
• About 5.5 times more spaced out than amethyst geodes.

Iron Geodes

• Spawn in frozen peaks, jagged peaks, stony peaks, snowy slopes, and grove biomes.
  • y: -16 to y: 56. About 4.2 times more spaced out as amethyst geodes.
  • y: 84 to y: 216. About five times more spaced out as amethyst geodes.

Windswept Iron Geode

• A special type of iron geode found in windswept hills and windswept gravelly hills biomes.
• Can spawn anywhere above y:56, but only very close or at the surfaces of the terrain, including surface caves!
• Can take up to thousands or tens of thousands of blocks of travelling to find. These are much smaller geodes than typical iron geodes.

Diamond Geode

• Spawns in the deep dark.
• Between y: -51 and y: -16
• Can only spawn near the surfaces of caves, and will be carved up by caves and structures (Can only replace terrain, so you may find them blended into cave walls).
• Extremely difficult to find, even in spectator.

Lapis Lazuli Geode

• Spawns in deserts.
• Between y: 8 and y: 48
• About 6.9 times more spaced out than amethyst geodes.

Terralith Compatibility

Geodes spawn in Terralith biomes too!

• Gold Geode:

  • Bryce Canyons
  • White Mesa
  • Warped Mesa
  • Granite Caves

• Iron Geode:

  • Rocky Mountains
  • Tuff Caves.

• Lapis Lazuli Geode:

  • Ancient Sands
  • Desert Canyon
  • Desert Spires
  • Sandstone Valley
  • Painted Mountains (above y: 63).
