Redstone Emitters Require Redstone

by Nikas_Kunitz · on Modrinth

Which build do you need?

This mod ships a separate file for every mod loader and every version of the game. Pick both, then download — the wrong build installs fine and then does nothing in the game.

Mod loader

Minecraft version

⬇ Download for 1.20–1.20.1 · Data pack⬇ Download for 1.20.1 · Forge
I don't know my version or loader
Open the Minecraft launcher and look at the profile you play on — it names both, like fabric-loader-1.21.4. The version also shows in the bottom-right corner of the game's main menu.
No loader in the profile name? Then it's plain Minecraft, and these mods won't run — you need Fabric or NeoForge installed first.

This simple data mod/datapack changes crafting recipes of basic redstone signal emitters (buttons, pressure plates, lever and tripwire hook. And, by extension from tripwire hook, trapped chest as well) to require redstone. There are two reasons for that.

First reason is conceptual. For a long time I wondered, how two plank/stone blocks smashed together into a thin plate create redstone energy? Or just one extremely compressed planks/stone block? Or a stick shoved into a cobblestone? Or a peculiar construction of wood and iron?.. Redstone itself is a rather magical power, creating energy out of itself (being more realistic to simulate logical gates more than real castle ones). But these basic redstone signal emitters lack even it! So I made them all require a pinch of redstone dust. This also "pushes the progression" further - now you require redstone to do any kind of mechanism.

Second reason is more immediate and practical one, that actually caused me to make this mod. By adding requirement of redstone into recipes of the blocks above, their basic vanilla recipes (like one planks block (stone, cobblestone, iron or gold ingot) or two in a row, or for more exotic ideas, stick in a cobblestone and iron on stick on planks) are now freed up for something more "grounded" than redstone components. I intend to use atleast two of these freed up basic recipes for my other smaller mods.

Compatibility with my Better Stones mod is included, affecting crafting of granite, diorite and andesite buttons and pressure plates.

As this is a very basic recipe tweak, you can freely port/recreate it for other versions.
