Actually Faithful Steeds

by MidnyteStar · on Modrinth

A datapack that makes your faithful steed actually faithful by staying near where you dismounted. Free Minecraft Java datapack for 1.21.6, 1.21.7, 1.21.8.

Which Minecraft do you have?

Every version of the game needs its own build. Pick yours, then download — the wrong build installs fine and then does nothing in the game. This mod is built for Data pack only.

I don't know my version or loader
Open the Minecraft launcher and look at the profile you play on — it names both, like fabric-loader-1.21.4. The version also shows in the bottom-right corner of the game's main menu.
No loader in the profile name? Then it's plain Minecraft, and these mods won't run — you need Fabric or NeoForge installed first.

This datapack removes the pesky problem of your beloved steed leaving you in the dust whenever you dismount for more than a second. This should work in multi-player.

This image shows all the mount mobs affected by this datapack: pig, horse, skeleton horse, zombie horse, mule, donkey, llama, trader llama, camel, camel husk, and strider.

How This Works:

When you dismount or remove a leash from your mount, they will gain a home position based on where it's standing at that moment. They will have their home position removed if they aren't wearing a saddle or other equipment.

Wander Distance:

If they have a saddle, then they will wander in an 8 block radius of their home position. If they have other equipment on but no saddle, then the mount will have a 16 block wander radius.

Strider: A saddled strider has a wandering radius of only 2 blocks when warm and 16 blocks when cold. The wander radius will only change to 16 blocks if the player brings it out of the lava. The home position will update automatically once it's warm again.

Donkeys, mules, and llamas - if equipped with a chest: These mounts will lose their home position if they are leashed and only have a chest equipped. You can't remove this chest in the base game, so you can still let these mobs wander a larger area if you choose.
