Improved Copper Equipment

by BenSkylake · on Modrinth

A data pack that reworks copper equipment to be stronger and more useful than normal, as well as easier to obtain.

Which Minecraft do you have?

Every version of the game needs its own build. Pick yours, then download — the wrong build installs fine and then does nothing in the game. This mod is built for Data pack only.

⬇ Download for 1.21.11–26.2⬇ Download for 1.21.9–1.21.10
I don't know my version or loader
Open the Minecraft launcher and look at the profile you play on — it names both, like fabric-loader-1.21.4. The version also shows in the bottom-right corner of the game's main menu.
No loader in the profile name? Then it's plain Minecraft, and these mods won't run — you need Fabric or NeoForge installed first.

Making copper the true middleground between stone and iron!

Improved Copper Equipment is a data pack that uses attribute and block tag modifications to rebalance most copper equipment with slightly improved stats over their default ones, placing them perfectly between their stone and iron counterparts. Whether you just want an easier early game or simply aren't in a hurry to upgrade to iron, any new copper equipment you make will be stronger than before!

Tool changes:

Copper Pickaxe is also now capable of mining the following blocks:

Have an easier time fighting mobs and gathering resources!

Armour changes:

Total protection of full copper armour set: 10 -> 12

A full set gives the same protection as chainmail. Mix in some gold armour for even more!

New in version 2.0!

Wooden & Golden Pickaxe can now mine the following blocks:

Just like how copper is skippable in vanilla Minecraft, you now have the option to skip over stone and go straight to copper. This rework to the progression system opens up new options to ensure that your progress suits the way you play the game. Those gold pickaxes you find in ruined portal chests will be just a bit more useful now!

Important Notices!

Stat changes only apply to new copper equipment that gets crafted after loading this data pack. They don't retroactively apply to existing equipment, anything obtained from the creative menu or with the /give command, or anything dropped by mobs. This is because the data pack only overrides crafting recipes to result in the same items but with their modified attributes. Modified stats also don't carry over when combined in the crafting menu but do when combined in an anvil or grindstone. All pickaxe mining enhancements do apply retroactively.

Credits

Improved Copper Equipment was created by BenSkylake (me) but the block tag changes used to expand the mining capabilities of the copper pickaxe were created by Kitteh6660 on Reddit who graciously gave me permission to include them in it. They must be credited alongside me in any derivative works!

Special thanks to Misode for their data pack generator and to the Minecraft Wiki for their excellent documentation, both of which made creating this data pack a lot easier!

I've done extensive testing to ensure all modified equipment behave as normal but if you do notice any issues, send me a message on Reddit and I'll try to get it sorted out (your account must be older than 30 days).

Using this data pack in game versions newer than listed may cause an error message to show in-game but the pack will work without issue. I'll make minor revisions to officially support newer versions but very infrequently with gaps spanning multiple game drops.
