BungeeMessages
Your proxy messages. Your rules.

Modrinth • Hangar • Source • Discord

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

What it does

BungeeCord talks to your players in a fixed set of English strings. Server is full!
You are already connected to this server!
The kick reason when a backend goes down.
None of it fits a server that has its own voice.

This plugin puts all 50 of those messages into one config.yml, with colour
codes and hex colours, and lets you reload them without restarting the proxy.

Leave a message out and it keeps BungeeCord's default, so you can change one line
and ignore the other 49.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

How it works

Proxy messages come in two kinds, and they need different handling.

Translated messages are looked up by key in BungeeCord's own language file.
BungeeMessages swaps that lookup table for one built from your config, so 44 keys
are replaced at the source. Every message that travels the proxy's translation path
comes out in your wording.

Hardcoded messages are written out literally in BungeeCord's sources and have no
key to replace. There are 6 of them, mostly around connection failures.
BungeeMessages watches the kick and login events and rewrites those reasons on their
way to the player.

Features

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Commands

Main command /bmsgs, also /bmessages and /bm.

Tab completion covers the subcommands and, after get, the message keys.

Permissions

BungeeCord reads permissions from its own config.yml, not from the plugin.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Configuration

Code (Text):
settings:
inject-translations: true   # replace the proxy's translation table
intercept-hardcoded: true   # rewrite the six literal messages
restore-on-disable: true    # hand the originals back when unloading
metrics: true               # anonymous bStats statistics
debug: false                # log every match and replacement
  list-page-size: 10          # entries per page of /bmsgs list

messages:
  proxy_full:               "&cServer is full!"
already_connected:        "&cYou are already connected to this server!"
no_server_permission:     "&cYou don't have permission to access this server."
restart:                  "&cThe proxy server is restarting."
  # ... 40 more

  # Messages hardcoded in BungeeCord itself
  hardcoded_timed_out:      "&cConnection timed out."
hardcoded_login_timed_out: "&cLogin timed out. Please reconnect."
  # ... 4 more

plugin:
  prefix:   "&8[&6BungeeMessages&8] &r"
  reloaded: "&aConfiguration successfully reloaded!"
Spoiler: A note on braces
{0} and {1} are BungeeCord's own placeholders and only work where the
original message had them.

A brace that is not a placeholder, such as {name}, cannot be injected. That one
message keeps BungeeCord's default and the console tells you which key it was.
Every other message is unaffected.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Requirements

BungeeCord or a fork of it, on Java 11 or newer.

The translation swap reaches into a private field of the proxy. If a fork renames it,
the plugin says so in the console and the hardcoded interception keeps working on its own.

Statistics

BungeeMessages reports anonymous usage data to bStats.
Set metrics: false in the config, or turn it off proxy-wide in plugins/bStats/config.yml.
