hows details about the entity you’re looking at using ray tracing and a packet-only TextDisplay (no real world entities). Includes EN/TH messages, commands, permissions, and fully configurable offsets/interpolation.
EntitySpy
EntitySpy lets players “inspect” the entity they are looking at and shows a clean TextDisplay overlay using packets(viewer-only). It does not spawn real entities into the world, so it stays lightweight and doesn’t affect other players.
Features
Real-time info overlay for the targeted Entity/Player (via sneak toggle)
Target selection using rayTraceEntities
Packet-only TextDisplay(viewer-only, no world spawn)
Follows the target using a mount/passenger approach (no teleport spam)
Fully configurable in config.yml (distance, update rate, offset, scale, interpolation, background/opacity/alignment/see-through, etc.)
i18n via messages.yml (EN/TH), including all TextDisplay lines/templates
Built-in commands + permissions
Commands
/entityspy reload Reload config/messages
/entityspy setdefault (also accepts setdefualt) Restore default config/messages
/entityspy checkupdate (currently a stub message)
Permissions
entityspy.use Allow usage (default: true)
entityspy.admin Admin permission (default: op)
entityspy.admin.reload
entityspy.admin.setdefault
entityspy.admin.checkupdate
Configuration
Files: config.yml, messages.yml
All TextDisplay behavior/tuning (offset/interpolation/etc.) is in config.yml
All strings/templates used by the overlay are in messages.yml
Supported Versions
1.21.x series (NMS reflection + packet-based TextDisplay)
Note: NMS/packet plugins may require updates when Mojang changes internals.
Installation
Put EntitySpy-*.jar into plugins/
Restart the server
Edit config.yml / messages.yml as needed
Use /entityspy reload after edits
Notes
Packet mode is visible only to the viewer (the player using EntitySpy)
Non-1.21.x servers may not work without code adjustments
