format : "%prefix% &f%player_name%&7: &7%message%"
admin:
priority : 0
format : "&c[ADMIN] &f%player_name%&7: &e%message%"
moderator:
priority : 10
format : "&e[MOD] &f%player_name%&7: &f%message%"
vip:

Permissions
Standard Permissions:
- chatformat.admin - Access to admin commands (e.g. /chatformat reload)
- chatformat.use - Basic chat permission (default: true for all)
Format Permissions:
A permission is automatically created for each format:
- icf.admin - Admin chat format
- icf.moderator - Moderator chat format
- icf.vip - VIP chat format
- icf.<your_format> - Your custom format
Setting Permissions with LuckPerms:
Code (Text):
/lp user <player> permission set icf.admin true
/lp group admin permission set icf.admin true
/lp user <player> permission unset icf.admin
Define alternative permission names that point to specific formats:
Code (YAML):
custom_permissions:
enabled : true
permissions:
"server.owner" : "admin"
"custom.premium" : "vip"
Main Command: /chatformat (Aliases: /cf, /chatfmt, /icf, /imperialcf)
Available Commands:
- /chatformat reload - Reload the configuration (Permission: chatformat.admin)
- /chatformat info - Show plugin information
- /chatformat list - List all available formats
Priority System
How does it work?
When a player has multiple format permissions, the plugin automatically selects the format with the highest priority:
| Format | Priority | Example Calculation |
| admin | 0 | Always used first |
| moderator | 10 | Used after admin |
| vip | 20 | Used after moderator |
| default | 9999 | Fallback for all others |
Example Scenario:
Player "Imperial42" has permissions for:
- icf.admin (priority: 0)
- icf.vip (priority: 20)
Result: The admin format will be used (priority 0 is higher than 20)
Configuration Tips
1. Simple Admin Setup:
Code (YAML):
formats:
default:
priority : 100
format : "%prefix% %player_name%&7: %message%"
admin:
priority : 0
format : "&c[ADMIN]&r %prefix% %player_name%&7: &c%message%"
Code (YAML):
formats:
clanmember:
priority : 50
format : "[%player_clan_tag%] %prefix% %player_name%&7: %message%"
Code (YAML):
formats:
creative:
priority : 50
format : "&d[CREATIVE]&r %player_name%&7: %message%"
survival:
priority : 50
format : "&a[SURVIVAL]&r %player_name%&7: %message%"
Q: The plugin doesn't load, what should I do?
A: Make sure that:
- PlaceholderAPI is installed
- Your server uses Java 21 or higher
- You restarted the server after uploading the JAR
Q: Why doesn't my format work?
A: Check:
- That the chatformat.yml is correctly formatted (YAML syntax)
- That each format has priority and format fields
- That the player has the correct permission (/lp user <player> info)
Q: Can I assign permissions without LuckPerms?
A: Yes, but LuckPerms is recommended. Without LuckPerms you can assign permissions via OP status or other permission plugins.
Q: How do I disable the plugin?
A: Set in the chatformat.yml: enabled: false
Q: Can I add custom formats?
A: Yes! Simply add new entries under formats:, and the plugin will automatically create the permission.
Q: Tab-list shows too long names?
A: Minecraft limits tab-list names to 16 characters without color codes. The plugin automatically truncates long names.
