The Cryptid Mod (1.20.1, 1.19.2) – A Creepy Stalker with Long Arms

The Cryptid Mod adds a horror stalker entity that appears in your world, watches you, and creates constant tension through unpredictable behavior and sounds.

Features:

• Adds a roaming horror entity called Cryptid
• Focuses on stalking and psychological pressure instead of constant combat
• Encounters feel random and uncertain

Behavior

• Often watches the player from a distance
• May slowly follow or circle around the player
• Can pace, observe, or reposition instead of attacking
• If ignored for long enough, it may:
  • Disappear
  • Become aggressive and start a chase
  • Trigger a random event
  • Switch behavior pattern

Player Interaction

• Looking directly at the Cryptid can trigger a reaction
• Possible reactions:
  • Instant disappearance
  • Random event
  • Start of a chase
• On hit, it has a chance to grab or throw the player
• Early encounters focus on fear, later encounters are more lethal
• After a successful kill, its behavior resets to scare-focused again

Sound Design

• Nearby audio cues include:
  • Claw scraping
  • Footsteps
  • Branch or twig snapping
  • Ambient horror sounds
• Some sounds are fake and can play without the entity nearby
• Volume controlled by Jukebox/Note Block sound slider

Config Options

• Edit in the config folder or with the Configured mod
• Key settings include:
  • Minimum and maximum spawn time (seconds)
  • Spawn chance
  • Minimum and maximum chase time (minutes)
  • Maximum spawn distance (blocks)
  • Enable or disable chase music
  • Alternate chase theme toggle
  • Screen vignette effect during chase
  • Block regeneration after damage (true/false)
  • Disable first-day spawn (true/false)
