Even when you play Minecraft on a singleplayer world, there is an integrated server running on your system. And the game events that you see in the game occur on the client side. There will always be some sort of desync between the integrated server side and the client side. The goal of Entity Desync Viewer Mod is to make the desync that occurs in the position of entities between the client side and the server side. The hitbox of the entity on the client side is shown in white, while the hitbox on the server side is shown in green. Note that this works for the integrated server in singleplayer mode.
