OutpostZero

by M0stlyHarmless · on CurseForge

Start the game inside an underground survival bunker and discover additional bunkers hidden throughout the world.

Which build do you need?

This mod ships a separate file for every mod loader and every version of the game. Pick both, then download — the wrong build installs fine and then does nothing in the game.

I don't know my version or loader
Open the Minecraft launcher and look at the profile you play on — it names both, like fabric-loader-1.21.4. The version also shows in the bottom-right corner of the game's main menu.
No loader in the profile name? Then it's plain Minecraft, and these mods won't run — you need Fabric or NeoForge installed first.

OutpostZero starts the player inside a generated bunker near world spawn, providing a secure underground location for survival gameplay.

Additional bunker structures generate throughout the world, creating a network of hidden underground facilities waiting to be discovered.

The mod is designed primarily for survival gameplay and zombie-themed modpacks, where starting underground and scavenging bunker locations fits naturally into the experience.

Bunkers are placed using generation algorithms intended to create believable underground installations rather than randomly placed structures.

Spawn frequency and generation behaviour can be configured, allowing modpack creators to adjust bunker density to suit different gameplay styles.

OutpostZero introduces bunker-themed infrastructure blocks including airlock doors, motion sensors, lighting, and industrial equipment designed to fit naturally into underground or industrial builds.

Some bunker locations include small pieces of environmental storytelling referencing an experimental subject known as Patient Four, included purely as optional flavour.

OutpostZero also introduces functional survival equipment such as rechargeable batteries, handheld flashlights, genetic crop systems, and built-in support for zombie infection gameplay. The mod integrates directly with The Hordes mod and also includes a lightweight fallback infection system for standalone survival or zombie-themed modpacks.

The mod is designed to integrate cleanly into both singleplayer and multiplayer environments without overriding vanilla systems.

Systems & Compatibility

OutpostZero includes several optional systems designed to integrate cleanly with existing gameplay and modpacks.

Flashlight & Battery System

Sneak right-click an equipped flashlight to remove the currently installed battery and right-click with a battery in the off-hand to add/replace.

Infection System & Compatibility

OutpostZero includes a configurable infection system designed to support zombie survival gameplay in both standalone environments and modpacks.

All systems are designed to function in both standalone environments and large modpacks without requiring additional dependencies.

Note - Spore Inquisition compatibility is implemented where supported by the dependency. Untested/inactive on Minecraft versions where Spore Inquisition is not available.

Dynamic Lighting Compatibility

Dynamic lighting is supported but requires a compatible client-side lighting mod.

If no dynamic lighting mod is installed, the flashlight will continue to function using the original server-side lighting.

Modpack Integration

OutpostZero is designed to work alongside survival-focused mods and exploration-driven gameplay.

Typical modpack use cases include:

Structure generation and loot behaviour can be tuned through configuration or datapacks to better suit different pack styles.

OutpostZero is suitable for zombie infection modpacks, survival overhaul packs, and apocalypse-style gameplay scenarios.

OutpostZero works in both standalone environments and large modpacks, automatically integrating with compatible systems when they are present.

Known Compatibility Issues

Fancy World Animations

Fancy World Animations may interfere with the Outpost Zero airlock door/hatch animations because FWA can attempt to apply its own animations to blocks that use vanilla door/trapdoor classes internally.

To prevent this, add Outpost Zero to the Fancy World Animations blacklist.

Create or edit:

config/fwa-blacklist.json

and ensure it contains:

{
    "mods": [
        "outpostzero"
    ]
}

Reporting Issues

If you encounter a compatibility issue with another mod, or find a machine setup that behaves incorrectly, please report it via the project issue tracker so it can be investigated.
