If you place beds and try to sleep in the Nether and the End dimensions, the beds will explode and leave you dead. This is intentional by design, as sleeping in beds will set a respawn point and the developers do not want players having respawn points in the Nether and the End. Sleep At Ease Mod is here to change that. With this mod installed, you can place and sleep on beds in the Nether and the End dimensions, also allowing you to set respawn points in these dimensions.
