The Enemy Echelons mod introduces a new mechanic where the difficulty of a hostile mob, like zombie, depends on the y-level in which it spawns. This means, a zombie which spawned deep underground will have higher health and stronger attacks. This makes mob fighting harder the deeper underground you go. This works best in dimensions where there is a clear progression/change in the terrain, but it can be customized to any dimension. A level is assigned to a mob at spawn and this level determines that amount of modification to its attributes (health, damage, speed, etc).

Mob difficulty is normal at sea level.

It gets slightly more difficult at the stone level.

The difficulty gets even harder at deepstone levels, as you near bedrock.
