Tensura: Gear Evolution
Your gear should grow alongside you.
Tensura: Gear Evolution expands the progression of Tensura: Reincarnated by allowing familiar weapons, armor, tools, and backpacks to earn EP and evolve into stronger forms.
Keep using the equipment you enjoy. As it gains EP, it can advance from ordinary Minecraft materials into powerful Tensura tiers. The goal is to make every trusted sword, tool, or armor set feel like part of your journey.
How It Works
- Fight with supported weapons and armor to earn EP through normal Tensura gameplay.
- Break blocks with supported tools to earn mining EP.
- Use an axe for both combat and harvesting. Axe harvesting EP is enabled by default and can be turned off.
- Reach the EP limit to evolve the item into its next tier.
- Check the tooltip to see your progress and the next evolution.
You do not need to replace your equipment every time you become stronger. Keep adventuring and let it improve with you.
What Can Evolve?
Vanilla Equipment
- Armor from leather through netherite and into Tensura materials
- Swords and axes
- Pickaxes, shovels, and hoes
- Bows and crossbows
- Tridents
Tensura Weapons
Many crafted Tensura weapon families receive complete progression paths, including katanas, great swords, long swords, short swords, kodachi, odachi, tachi, scythes, sickles, and spears.
Gold, silver, mithril, spider bow, and other special paths are also supported where appropriate.
Optional Mod Support
These integrations are completely optional. You only need them if you want their equipment to evolve.
- Traveler's Backpack — progress through its backpack tiers while keeping the backpack's appearance.
- Sophisticated Backpacks — evolve from the basic backpack through copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite tiers.
- Simply Swords — adds progression for its material weapon families and supported special weapons.
- Ice and Fire CE — adds paths for selected armor, weapons, tools, bows, and special items.
- Sengoku Jidai — adds evolution paths for its Japanese weapons on Fabric.
When Tensura Neo Otherworld is installed, supported Sophisticated Backpacks can continue beyond netherite into its higher backpack tiers.
Backpack Slots
Backpacks can gain combat EP while held in the main hand or off hand.
On NeoForge, supported backpacks also gain proper EP and can evolve while equipped in the real Curios Back slot. You can keep your weapon in hand and let your worn backpack progress naturally during combat.
Make the Progression Your Own
Both NeoForge and Fabric include configuration screens with options for changing the experience.
You can adjust:
- How quickly combat and mining earn EP
- How long each evolution tier takes
- Which equipment families are enabled
- Whether axes earn EP from harvesting
- Optional stat bonuses while filling an EP bar
- Tooltips and debugging information
Advanced systems such as evolution traits, tool specializations, armor set bonuses, milestone challenges, awakening, and harder progression rules are also available for players and modpack creators who want a deeper experience. Most of these extra systems are optional and can be left disabled for a simpler playthrough.
Some Fabric configuration changes take effect after restarting the game.
Existing Worlds
Tensura: Gear Evolution can be added to an existing Minecraft 1.21.1 world. Supported equipment is recognized as you hold it, equip it, use it, or rejoin the world.
As with any mod change, making a normal world backup before updating a modpack is always recommended.
