If you need any support or requests regarding the datapack, the best place to contact me is via the discord server.
This is a datapack designed for Hardcore in Multiplayer play.
- Forced Spectator on death
- Difficulty Hard on load
- Revival Shrine (Check Bottom of Page)
The datapack also sets up a health scoreboard, but there is no setdisplay.
(Servers sometimes tend to reset difficulty to lower than hard after a restart if the difficulty isn't specified to hard in server properties. Setting difficulty hard on load is to get around that for people who may not know about that or forgot to set it to hard in the properties.)
True Multiplayer Hardcore
True MHC is an alternate datapack file you can download that comes with the same functionality as the first, but the respawn shrine is removed.
Revival Shrine
The Revival Shrine can be found at 0, -38, 0 in the overworld. (0, 13, 0 if using the 1.16.5 version)
The revival of a player cost 4 ancient debris, 4 diamond blocks, 4 gold blocks, 1 emerald block, 4 crying obsidian, and 1 respawn anchor.
The blocks must be placed in a certain pattern as displayed in the gif below:

Note: The revival will respawn 1 random dead player that is online.
You can use the command below to revive a player:
/scoreboard player set username DeathReset 1
Use the command below to revive all players
/function mhc:wipe
Video Showcase:
If you wish to modify the number of lives you have, then you can modify the data pack following the steps below.
- Locate the data pack folder in the world file. Then locate the load.mcfunction.
Multiplayer Hardcore > data > mhc > functions > load.mcfunction - Open load.mcfunction and locate the following lines

Change the "1" value to how many lives you wish to have. (Ex. "scoreboard players set #DeathCheck DeathsCheck 3", for three lives)
If you wish to change the shrine recipe, it involved modifying the datapack itself. Here is a video demonstration:
FAQ / Common Issues
Q: The datapack doesn't respawn me or my friends using the override or shrine,
A: Make sure that in your server properties, "hardcore=false" Hardcore mode will override the function of this datapack, causing it not to function properly.
