FragmentWorld
A shattered world, residing in the void.

**The Sundering**
Long ago, reality cracked.
Mountains exploded. Oceans vanished. Entire forests were torn into the sky. Villages, strongholds, and ancient civilizations were ripped apart. Even the Nether and the End weren't spared.
What's left is Fragment World: an endless void scattered with floating remnants of the original world—each one suspended in nothing, waiting to be discovered.
**What It Actually Does**
FragmentWorld replaces vanilla terrain generation entirely.
Instead of one continuous landmass, your world becomes a procedurally generated field of floating biome fragments. Every island is generated deterministically from your world seed, meaning the same seed always creates the exact same world with nothing pre-generated and nothing wasted on chunks players never visit.
The gameplay loop is simple:
**Discover** → **Explore** → **Claim** → **Restore** → **Expand**
***Discover***
Fragments remain hidden until someone gets close.
***Explore***
Every fragment is a real destination.
**Each has**:
Multiple size classes
Rarity tiers
Unique biome generation
Special Corrupted variants
Custom Guardian bosses
Environmental atmosphere unique to that fragment
Claim
Every fragment contains a Fragment Core.
Claiming it permanently restores the island, awards Fragment Energy, defeats its Guardian, and removes the unstable energy surrounding it.
***Expand***
Nothing connects naturally.
Bridges, railways, portals (coming soon), and transportation networks are built entirely by players, slowly stitching the shattered world back together.
*What's New in Version* **1.2.0**
Version 1.2.0 focuses heavily on atmosphere and immersion while fixing nearly every major issue discovered during testing.
**Core Auras**
Every undiscovered fragment now radiates unstable energy.
Particle effects trace the actual edge of each island, making unexplored fragments feel alive from a distance.
Claiming a Core triggers a one-time restoration animation featuring rising double spirals before the island finally settles into peace.
**Corrupted Biome Shift**
Corrupted fragments now become actual vanilla corrupted biomes.
Instead of simply looking corrupted, entering one now **naturally changes**:
*Fog
Sky color
Ambient sounds
Music
Weather behavior*
**The Bleed**
Every fragment now slowly appears to be consumed by the void.
Crystalline veins spread naturally along island undersides while Glow Lichen or Sculk Veins on Corrupted fragments creep across exposed stone.
The closer you get to an island's crumbling edge, the more intense the corruption becomes.
**Ambient Ash**
Fine ash particles now drift around players throughout the Fragment World regardless of biome.
Even standing on a peaceful meadow now feels like surviving the remains of a broken world.
**Procedural Soundscapes**
The void is no longer silent.
While crossing long bridges over empty space, players may occasionally hear distant, pitch-shifted sounds such as:
*A far-off Ender Dragon growl
A distant Warden groan*
Claiming a Fragment Core now rewards players with layered restoration sounds combining the advancement toast with distant thunder.
**Discovery Milestones**
Exploration spam has been completely redesigned.
Instead of receiving chat messages for every fragment found, players are now rewarded:
the first time they discover a fragment type
every milestone thereafter (default: every **10** discoveries)
Each milestone also grants Fragment Energy comparable to defeating a Guardian.
Exploration finally feels rewarding without flooding chat.
**Console Banner**
A new colored FW startup banner now appears when the server launches.
Because every plugin deserves a proper entrance.
**Major Improvements**
Version **1.2.0** also fixes numerous gameplay and world-generation issues.
Fragment Overlap (Complete Rewrite)
This was the biggest issue discovered.
Large fragments could occasionally overlap neighboring islands, producing bizarre mixed terrain.
Sizing is now calculated dynamically as a safe fraction of the surrounding grid spacing, making overlap mathematically impossible.
As a result, islands are now intentionally spaced farther apart, encouraging larger player-built bridge networks until future transportation systems arrive.
**Natural Mob Spawning Restored**
A leftover development flag was unintentionally disabling natural mob spawning across the entire world.
This has been completely fixed.
Mobs now spawn naturally across every fragment.
**Proper Void Weather**
Rain while bridging previously rendered as snow due to the traversal biome.
The void now uses a precipitation-free biome, eliminating incorrect weather visuals.
**Discovery Distance Rebalanced**
Fragments previously became discoverable from far away.
Players must now actually reach an island before it becomes officially discovered.
**Better Trees**
Trees near chunk borders could occasionally generate with missing canopies.
Generation has been rewritten so trees only appear when their entire canopy fits safely inside the chunk.
**Improved Forest Density**
Forest fragments now feel much more natural.
**Changes include**:
*Approximately 40% fewer trees
Fewer fallen logs
More flowers
More grass
More ferns
Better overall spacing
Better Island Shapes*
Fragments no longer resemble rounded floating domes.
**They now feature**:
*flatter playable tops
steeper cliffs
sharply tapering undersides
more dramatic silhouettes
Mangrove Rework*
Mangrove fragments have been completely redesigned.
Instead of flat terrain, they now form sunken bowl-shaped islands with swamp water naturally pooling toward the center.
**Content Changes**
Several fragment types have been removed to improve overall quality.
***Removed fragment types include***:
*Ocean
Village
Stronghold
Ancient City
Pillager Outpost
Woodland Mansion
Mineshaft
Dungeon
Ocean Monument
Shipwreck
Ruined Portal
Igloo
Trail Ruins
Trial Chamber
Lush Caves
Dripstone Caves*
While technically functional, these generated as flat platforms without their iconic structures and ultimately felt unfinished.
Rather than shipping content that wasn't enjoyable, they have been removed until a better implementation exists.
The Nether biome family and Deep Dark remain, as they still provide strong visual identity despite lacking traditional surface vegetation.
Guardian archetypes tied exclusively to the removed fragment types have also been retired.
**Under the Hood**
FragmentWorld is built around deterministic procedural generation.
Every fragment's:
*location
size
rarity
biome
corruption state*
is calculated directly from the world seed and grid coordinates.
Nothing is pre-generated.
Nothing is stored unnecessarily.
Nothing can desynchronize.
Chunks without nearby fragments generate as true void, minimizing storage usage while reducing unnecessary server workload.
Persistent discovery progress, ownership, Fragment Energy, and world data are all stored safely using SQLite.
Everything from fragment spacing to energy rates is configurable through config.yml.
**Who It's For**
FragmentWorld is built for servers that want exploration to matter again.
Instead of rushing toward late-game progression, players slowly uncover an endless shattered world where every distant island might contain something they've never seen before.
It recreates the feeling of discovering Minecraft for the first time but stretches that feeling across the lifetime of an entire server.
**Commands**
***Current core commands include***:
*/fragment map
/fragment locate
/fragment claim
/fragment energy
/fragment tp (teleports you to the Fragment World)
/fragment leave (returns you to your main world; optional and easily removable if not needed)
Looking Ahead*
Version **1.2.0** lays the atmospheric foundation for much larger systems planned for future updates.
**Currently in development**:
*Custom portal transportation network
Fragment Energy sinks and progression
Endgame Heart Fragment
World-scale events
Void Storms
Meteor Showers
Additional exploration mechanics
Even more fragment types and world interactions*
The foundation is now in place.
The shattered world is only getting bigger from here.
Get Involved
FragmentWorld is still actively evolving, and feedback from server owners is invaluable.
If you've been looking for a survival experience where exploration stays meaningful long after the first week, this is exactly what FragmentWorld was built for.
**Run it.**
*Break it.*
***Tell me what needs improving.***
Every update is shaped by real testing and player feedback.
