Minecraft shields are not perfect. They have some inconsistencies and bugs that make them open to improvement. BetterShields Mod improves the in-game shields by fixing some inconsistencies related to the sound effects related to them. There is a documented bug where hitting a player blocking with a shield will play the default player hurt sound, but when you block and get hit, it plays the correct shield sound. This mod partially fixes this bug, along with some color changes when the shield is disabled or raised.
