Shriekier Shriekers

by OpenBagTwo · on Modrinth

Patches sculk shriekers so that they react to non-player vibrations. Free Minecraft Java mod for 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2.

Which build do you need?

This mod ships a separate file for every mod loader and every version of the game. Pick both, then download — the wrong build installs fine and then does nothing in the game.

I don't know my version or loader
Open the Minecraft launcher and look at the profile you play on — it names both, like fabric-loader-1.21.4. The version also shows in the bottom-right corner of the game's main menu.
No loader in the profile name? Then it's plain Minecraft, and these mods won't run — you need Fabric or NeoForge installed first.

Patches sculk shriekers so that they react to redstone-triggered signals

What Does This Mod Do?

In the early snapshots for Minecraft 1.19, sculk shriekers could be activated by redstone. Once the version actually released, however, not only could shriekers only be triggered by sensors, but sensors that were triggered by any "unnatural" movement (read: not belonging to the player) would no longer trigger a shrieker.

On the whole this is probably a good thing, otherwise every time a bat spawned in the Deep Dark, it would be like Night of the Living Dead all up and down y=-51.

However, not being able to set off synthetic (placed) shriekers with, say, a timer is kind of a bummer. So this mod patches that behavior so that a shrieker's shriek can be triggered by non-player vibrations, allowing players to build:

Optional Features

You can further configure this mod in two ways:

To enable these features, either install ModMenu and change the settings there, or edit shriekier_shriekers.yaml in your instance's config folder to contain one or both of these lines, depending on your preference:

cause_darkness: true
apply_to_natural: true

(both will be false by default)

Installation, Usage and Compatibility

For multiplayer, this mod only needs to be installed server-side, and, assuming no other mods are installed on the server, is confirmed working for vanilla clients.

There are no current plans to backport this mod to 1.19-1.19.4, but I'll do it upon request (open an issue!)

The build has also been confirmed compatible with Quilt as well as Fabric. It does not depend on the Fabric API. I do not currently plan to make a Forge port, but may do so on request.
