CustomFurnace
CustomFurnace is a Paper plugin that turns vanilla furnaces, blast furnaces and smokers into upgradable machines. Higher levels smelt faster and burn fuel longer. Players upgrade through an in-game menu, paying with coins (Vault) or points (PlayerPoints) — no commands to memorize, no setup beyond dropping the jar in your plugins folder.

Features

Feature
Description
Upgradable furnaces
Furnace, Blast Furnace and Smoker each have their own level ladder.
Two upgrade tracks Pay with coins (via Vault) or points (via PlayerPoints). Each track has its own levels, speeds and prices.
Faster smelting Each level sets an exact smelting speed, e.g. 200 → 160 ticks per item.
Fuel bonus Every level makes fuel burn longer (default +20% per level).
Floating holograms Furnaces show a name tag and a live, color-gradient progress bar while smelting. Purely packet-based — no real entities, no lag.
Upgrade menu A fully configurable inventory menu; layout, icons and texts are all yours to change.
Keeps its level Break a custom furnace and it drops as an item that remembers its type, level and track.
Explosion protection Optionally shields custom furnaces from TNT, creepers and the wither.
Requirements

Software
Required? Purpose
Paper 1.21.11 (or newer) Yes Server platform
Java 21 Yes Runtime
packetevents Yes Powers the holograms
Vault + any economy plugin Optional Enables the coins upgrade track
PlayerPoints Optional Enables the points upgrade track
Economy hooks are detected automatically. Install Vault and coin upgrades just work; install PlayerPoints and points upgrades just work. There is nothing to switch on.

Installation
  1. Download CustomFurnace.jar and place it in your server's plugins folder.
  2. Install packetevents the same way (required).
  3. Optionally install Vault (with an economy plugin) and/or PlayerPoints.
  4. Restart the server. A plugins/CustomFurnace folder with all config files is created.
  5. Verify the hooks with /furnace checkecon.
How It Works
  1. Get a furnace — an admin hands one out with /furnace give, or you sell them in a shop. A custom furnace looks like a normal furnace item but carries its level in its lore.
  2. Place it — it smelts at the speed of its level and shows a floating hologram.
  3. Upgrade it — break it (the item keeps its level), hold it in your main hand, run /furnace upgrade, and click a button in the menu. The cost is taken from your balance and the item instantly becomes the next level.
  4. Place it again — enjoy the faster speed.
A furnace belongs to one track (coins or points), chosen when it is first given. The menu only charges the matching currency.

File
Controls
config.yml Behavior: fuel bonus per level, dropped-item name tags
furnaces.yml The heart of the plugin: furnace types, level names, speeds and upgrade prices
hologram.yml The floating display: texts, progress bar, colors, visibility range
message.yml Every chat message the plugin sends
guis/upgrade.yml The upgrade menu: title, layout grid, buttons, icons
Defining levels (furnaces.yml)
Each furnace type has a vault and/or a points section — its two upgrade tracks:

furnaces:
furnace:
display_name:
1: "<gold>Basic Furnace"
2: "<gold>Advanced Furnace"
3: "<gold>Reinforced Furnace"
explosion-protection: true
vault:
max-level: 3
speed: # ticks per smelted item (lower = faster; vanilla is 200)
1: 200
2: 180
3: 160
upgrade-cost: # "from-to": price
1-2: 1000
2-3: 3000

To add a level: give it a display_name, a speed entry, an upgrade-cost entry, and raise max-level. That's all.

Texts and colors
All player-facing texts use MiniMessage color tags, e.g. <gold>, <green>, <st>strikethrough</st>.

Placeholders
These tokens can be used inside the configuration files listed for each:

Placeholder
Meaning Usable in
{display} Level display name (e.g. Advanced Furnace) item lore, dropped name, holograms, upgrade menu
{level} Current level number item lore, dropped name, holograms, upgrade menu
{speed} Ticks needed per smelted item item lore, dropped name, holograms, upgrade menu
{payment} Track name ( Coins / Points) item lore, dropped name, holograms, upgrade menu
{percent} Smelting progress in percent hologram.yml (smelting template)
{progress_bar} Anchor line replaced by the progress bar hologram.yml (smelting template)
{vault_cost}, {vault_next_level}, {vault_next_speed} Coin-track upgrade preview guis/upgrade.yml
{points_cost}, {points_next_level}, {points_next_speed} Points-track upgrade preview guis/upgrade.yml
The plugin has no PlaceholderAPI expansion and no developer API — the table above is the complete placeholder surface.

Example Setups
1. Survival server with a premium track
Keep the default files. Coins (earned in-game) upgrade a furnace up to level 3; points (bought in your store) reach level 5 with better speeds. Casual players progress for free, supporters go further — on separate items, so nothing mixes.

2. Furnaces as shop goods
Sell pre-leveled furnaces directly. Hook your shop plugin to run, for example:

furnace give %player% blast_furnace 2 points

The buyer receives a level-2 blast furnace that can keep upgrading through the menu.

3. Cosmetic-only speed tiers
Want prestige furnaces without an economy? Install neither Vault nor PlayerPoints and hand out fixed-level furnaces with /furnace give. Upgrade buttons simply report the economy as unavailable, while speed, fuel bonus and holograms all still work.

FAQ
Do custom furnaces lose their level when broken? No. They drop as an item with their type, level and track stored inside — even when destroyed by an explosion (if explosion-protection is off).

Why is an upgrade button red? That track is at max level for this furnace, or the matching economy plugin is not installed.

Can a coins furnace be upgraded with points? No. Each furnace stays on the track it was created with.

Hoppers, other plugins, world edits? The plugin re-checks every registered furnace continuously; if a block vanishes by any means, its hologram and data are cleaned up automatically.

Does the hologram cost performance? It is sent as network packets only to players within view-range (default 10 blocks) and only re-sent when its text actually changes.
