Wayfinder: Trailbound

Remember the destination. Retrace the journey. Find your way—without teleporting.

Wayfinder: Trailbound is a navigation-focused Fabric mod for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.11. It helps you remember meaningful locations and return from long expeditions while preserving the adventure of travelling there yourself.

Craft a Wayfinder and build a personal Trailbook containing up to eight destinations. Each marker can be named, colored, assigned an icon, and selected for guidance through the Wayfinder’s animated compass needle, distance readings, world markers, and particles.

Wayfinder is designed for players who want help exploring caves, crossing dimensions, recovering lost locations, and finding home—without replacing survival travel with instant teleportation.

The Expedition Update — Version 1.2

Wayfinder 1.2 expands the mod from a destination compass into a complete exploration companion.

Retrace your journey with Trail Mode

Press G while holding a Wayfinder to begin recording your route. Explore normally while the Wayfinder remembers the path behind you.

Press G again when you are ready to return. The Wayfinder will guide you backward through the recorded breadcrumbs—including turns, jumps, tunnels, and elevation changes—until you arrive at the original starting point.

During the return journey, press G to pause or resume guidance without losing your progress.

A living compass

The Wayfinder now behaves more like a physical Minecraft compass:

The larger center-screen compass display remains available as an optional accessibility setting but is disabled by default.

Expanded marker customization

Trailbook markers can now use recognizable icons such as:

These icons appear alongside optional letter symbols to make markers easier to distinguish.

Improved Waystones and recovery

Accessibility and presentation

Version 1.2 also introduces:

Trailbook navigation

Every Wayfinder stores its own collection of up to eight markers.

Controls

All controls using keyboard keys can be changed through Minecraft’s Controls menu.
