- go into assets, minecraft, textures then item folders
- look at each texture where ever you can get the best quality
- pick your favorite out of the textures
- copy and paste your favorite and rename the copied one to "golden_apple" exactly (no uppercase)
- put it in your game and enjoy the new golden apple texture
