What is TreasureSpawn?
TreasureSpawn puts treasure chests in the world near your players while they explore. Each one rolls a tier — Common, Rare, Legendary, Mythic, or your own — fills itself from your loot tables, and floats a label above it. No commands, no queue, no waiting your turn.
And some of them are mimics. Not a trap that slaps you and ends: a fight. The chest wakes up, comes at you, and beating it drops more than the honest chest it was pretending to be. Let it get away and you lose the lot.
⚠ Version 2.0 is a complete rewrite
Version 1.x had a real problem, and a reviewer was right to call it out: chests piled up around players and no setting stopped it. The cause was that nothing limited how many unclaimed chests one player could have — lowering the interval to get chests "more often" quietly got you "more at once" instead.
2.0 was rebuilt from nothing around that: one clock per player, one hard cap per player, and a command that tells you exactly why a chest did or did not appear.
Coming from 1.x? Your config is migrated automatically on first start (a backup is kept), but three permission nodes were renamed — see the Permissions section.Click to expand...
- A clock per player, not a global draw — when a player's timer runs out they get one chest, and the timer starts again. "A chest every two minutes" means exactly that. Timers survive restarts and are frozen while a player is offline, so nobody gets a free chest for reconnecting.
- A hard cap on chests waiting per player — the setting 1.x did not have. However short your interval, a player never has more than N unclaimed chests around them.
- Chest tiers — Common, Rare, Legendary, Mythic, plus as many as you want. Each has its own weight, loot table, roll count, coloured title and block — barrel, chest, trapped chest or any shulker colour — so players can tell what they found from a distance. The block even turns to face them.
- Loot tables with per-item chance, amount ranges, custom names, lore, enchantments and CustomModelData. MMOItems and ElementalArms items drop in exactly as those plugins build them.
- Mimics are a fight — five kinds, each asking a different question:
- Brawler — comes at you. Can I take it?
- Runner — flees with the loot. Can I catch it?
- Splitter — splits when killed. Can I get them all?
- Flyer — goes through walls. Where do I stand?
- Swarm — several weak ones. Which one first?
- Mimics bleed loot as you damage them — so a fight you lose still leaves something on the ground, instead of being worth nothing.
- Mimics can disguise themselves as a better tier than they carry. The chest you sprint towards is the one most likely to bite.
- Mimics give themselves away — a wisp of smoke, a low knock. A player who walks up slowly and looks can spot one, which turns a coin flip into a decision. Switch it off for a crueller server.
- A killed mimic may leave another chest… which may also bite.
- Ten more mimic abilities, each with its own moment — on waking, during the fight, when hurt or on death: ghast scream, lightning, lit creepers, setting you on fire, caging you in, throwing you across the map, an economy penalty, an explosion, fake loot that vanishes before you reach it, and console commands. All off by default except the scream.
- Ownership & protection — a chest can belong only to the player it appeared for, for as long as you like. Chests can be made unbreakable (fire, pistons and explosions included), and players can be stopped from storing their own items in one — which matters, because a chest is destroyed when it closes.
- AFK-proof — a player has to have moved recently, so parked alts collect nothing overnight. Configurable, and switchable off.
- WorldGuard aware — never spawns where that player could not build, an optional strict "no regions at all" mode, and its own treasure-spawn region flag.
- VIP timers — give a permission and that player's interval drops by a percentage. Halve it and they genuinely get twice the chests.
- Sounds and particles — every one of them configurable by name, with a master switch.
- Admin GUI — 43 settings, edited with clicks: left raises, right lowers, shift multiplies by ten. Never leaves the menu, nothing to memorise, and every change saves and reloads on the spot.
- Loot editor in game — shift-click an item in your own inventory and it is written into the loot table, with its enchantments, name, lore and model data. MMOItems and ElementalArms items are recognised and referenced as such. Create and delete chest types without touching a file. Nothing ever leaves your inventory.
- It tells you what it is doing — /tsadmin why answers in four lines: when their next chest is due, how many they already have waiting, how the last attempt ended and how long since they moved. And if two settings fight each other, the plugin says so — in the console once, and inside the menu where you are changing them.
- One jar, 1.21 to 26.2. Built against the oldest supported version on purpose, so it cannot break on the newer ones.
- 4 languages (EN / ES / FR / ZH), fully editable. New text from an update is added to your file automatically without touching your edits.
Dependencies
None are required — TreasureSpawn runs on its own, and holograms need no plugin at all (it uses Minecraft's own floating text). Every integration below is optional and turns on by itself only if that plugin is installed:
- WorldGuard — region flag, build-permission and strict modes. https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/worldguard
- MMOItems (+ MythicLib) — put MMOItems in your loot tables. https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/39267/
- ElementalArms — the same, for ElementalArms items. https://infinity3113.mc-paradise.com/plugins
- Vault + any economy — the money-penalty mimic ability. https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/vault.34315/
⌨️ Commands
Player: /treasurespawn · aliases /ts, /treasure, /randomchest
- /ts — when your next chest is due, and where the ones waiting for you are.
- /ts spawn — ask for one now (needs a permission; your cap still applies).
- /ts give <tier> [player] — place a chest of a tier (admin).
- /ts reload — reload config, languages and loot (admin).
- /ts ver — version and author.
Admin: /treasurespawnadmin · alias /tsadmin
- /tsadmin — open the settings menu.
- /tsadmin loot — the loot and chest-type editor.
- /tsadmin why [player] — why they have, or have not, got a chest.
- /tsadmin status — settings and how many chests are out.
- /tsadmin spawn <player> [tier] — place one now.
- /tsadmin clear — remove every chest that is out.
- /tsadmin reload — reload everything.
Permissions
- treasurespawn.receive — chests appear for this player. (default: true)
- treasurespawn.command — use the player command. (default: true)
- treasurespawn.admin — admin commands, the settings menu and the loot editor. (default: op)
- treasurespawn.request — ask for a chest by hand with /ts spawn. (default: false)
- treasurespawn.open.any — open a chest that appeared for somebody else, ignoring its protection. (default: op)
- treasurespawn.fast.<name> — a percentage off that player's interval. You define the names in config.yml.
Upgrading from 1.x — three nodes were renamed:
- treasurespawn.spawn → treasurespawn.receive
- treasurespawn.cooldown.<name> → treasurespawn.fast.<name>
- treasurespawn.bypass.cooldown → removed. That node was the bug: every operator has it, it skipped the timer entirely, and that is where "six chests a minute" came from. /ts spawn with treasurespawn.request replaces it — and your per-player cap still applies to it.
⚙️ Configuration
One commented config.yml and a loot.yml for your tables. The three settings that affect each other sit together and are explained together, because that is exactly what went wrong in 1.x: how often chests appear and how long they last are not independent, and the plugin now says so out loud if your numbers fight.
Almost everything can also be set from /tsadmin. New options from an update land in your file on their own, with their documentation, leaving your edits alone — and a 1.x config is migrated automatically, keeping a backup.
Installation
- Drop TreasureSpawn.jar into your /plugins folder.
- Restart the server (Java 21).
- (Optional) Install WorldGuard, MMOItems, ElementalArms or Vault for the extras.
- Edit config.yml / loot.yml, or just run /tsadmin.

A note from the author
This plugin used to be premium. It is now free, with every feature included — and 2.0 exists because somebody took the time to tell me exactly what was wrong with it. If it helps your server:
