3.1.19 — North, south, and ceiling frames fixed

Dyed item frames now show their color on every facing. Frames placed facing north or south, and frames hung underneath a block, were showing up plain — that's fixed, and the dyed leather now sits properly recessed in the frame on all six sides.

Andy's Dyeable Item Frames

Dye, display, and organize with item frames that finally match your build.

Andy's Dyeable Item Frames adds dyeable versions of both the normal Item Frame and Glow Item Frame to Minecraft Bedrock. Their leather centers use Bedrock's real minecraft:dyeable item system—the same system used by leather armor—so dyeing a frame feels like a natural part of vanilla gameplay instead of a separate color menu.

All Dyed Frames On Display

Prepare colored water in a cauldron, interact with it while holding your frames, and the held frame stack takes on that dye color. Place the result on a wall, floor, or ceiling and use it like a normal frame. The wooden border keeps its vanilla appearance while only the leather center changes color. Glow variants retain their brighter center and colored glow effect.

Under the dyed leather, each placed frame is backed by a real Bedrock Item Frame or Glow Item Frame. That means displayed items, maps, normal rotation, comparator output, breaking behavior, and glow-item rendering remain in Minecraft's hands. The add-on adds the color and optional settings without replacing the frame behavior players already know.

Features

Requirements

Installation Guide

Windows, Android, iPhone, and iPad

  1. Download Andys_Dyeable_Item_Frames_3.1.2.mcaddon from this official CurseForge project.
  2. Open the downloaded .mcaddon file with Minecraft Bedrock.
  3. Wait for Minecraft to confirm that both included packs imported successfully.
  4. Create a world, or edit the world where you want to use the add-on.
  5. Open Behavior Packs → My Packs.
  6. Activate Andy's Dyeable Item Frames BP.
  7. Confirm that Andy's Dyeable Item Frames RP is active under Resource Packs. Bedrock may activate the paired pack automatically.
  8. Enter the world. Cheats and experimental toggles are not required.

Back up an important world before installing or updating any add-on.

Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch

Consoles generally cannot import arbitrary local .mcaddon files directly. Import and activate the add-on on Windows or mobile, upload the prepared world to a Realm, and join that Realm from the console. Realm members will download the world's required packs when joining.

Updating the Add-On

  1. Back up the world.
  2. Close the world completely.
  3. Import the newer .mcaddon file.
  4. Edit the world and confirm that the Behavior Pack and Resource Pack show the same newest version.
  5. Remove older active copies if Minecraft retained them.
  6. Reopen the world.

Frames placed by releases 2.0.0 through 2.0.9 use the add-on's older custom-block system. Break and replace those legacy frames once with version 3.0.0 or newer to receive native displayed-item behavior and DyeFrameSettings support.

Dyeable Frame Recipes

Both recipes are shapeless and use a Crafting Table.

Dyeable Item Frame

1 Item Frame + 1 Leather = 1 Dyeable Item Frame

Dyeable Glow Item Frame

1 Glow Item Frame + 1 Leather = 1 Dyeable Glow Item Frame

Obtaining any one of Minecraft's 16 dyes unlocks both recipes in the recipe book. Leather is the added ingredient because the recolorable portion of each frame is its leather center.

How to Dye Frames in a Cauldron

The process follows the same Bedrock dye system used for leather armor.

  1. Place a Cauldron.
  2. Fill the Cauldron with water.
  3. Hold the dye color you want.
  4. Interact with the water-filled Cauldron to color the water.
  5. Hold a Dyeable Item Frame or Dyeable Glow Item Frame.
  6. Interact with the dyed cauldron water.
  7. The entire held frame stack takes on that color.
  8. Place the dyed frames wherever you want to display or organize items.

Dye the frames in a cauldron like you dye leather armor and bundles

Minecraft's 16 standard dye colors are supported. If dyes are mixed into a custom shade, the placed frame uses the closest supported vanilla dye color.

Using Dyed Frames

  1. Place a dyed frame against a wall, floor, or ceiling.
  2. Interact with the placed frame while holding an item to display it.
  3. Interact again to rotate the displayed item through the normal frame positions.
  4. Break the frame normally when you want to move it.
  5. In Survival, the custom frame drops with its dye state preserved. Minecraft also drops the displayed item normally.

Dyed Frames

Because the placed frame uses a native Bedrock frame underneath its dyed leather skin, maps, renamed items, Glow Item Frame brightness, comparator output, and the normal eight rotation positions behave like vanilla frames.

DyeFrameSettings Stick

The settings tool works on normal, glow, vanilla, and dyed frames.

Create the settings stick

  1. Place a normal Stick in an Anvil.
  2. Rename it exactly:
DyeFrameSettings
  1. Hold the renamed stick.
  2. Interact directly with any placed Item Frame or Glow Item Frame.

The Item Frame Settings menu opens for that individual frame. Settings are saved per frame and persist across world reloads.

Item Frame Settings

Lock displayed-item rotation

Prevents use-clicks from changing the displayed item's rotation. This is useful for labels, maps, tools, clocks, and decorative displays that should stay aligned when players interact nearby.

Place the displayed item and set its desired angle before enabling the lock. If an empty locked frame will not accept an item, open the settings again and temporarily disable the lock.

Breaking the frame still works normally.

Show name while looking at frame

Displays the frame's name in the action bar while a player looks directly at it from within eight blocks. The text disappears when the player looks away, keeping storage rooms readable without filling the screen with permanent labels.

Display name

Sets the text used by Show name while looking at frame. Enter a custom label such as Building Blocks, Redstone Parts, or Diamond Tools.

Names may contain up to 80 characters. If no custom label is supplied, the add-on attempts to use the displayed item's normal or custom name when Bedrock exposes that item name to scripts.

Save

Saves the rotation-lock, name-display, and label settings to that frame. Configuring a vanilla frame does not replace its normal vanilla drop.

Storage-Room Ideas

Native Frame Behavior

The add-on deliberately keeps a real minecraft:frame or minecraft:glow_frame behind every newly placed dyed frame. Minecraft therefore remains responsible for:

The add-on stores the dye color and renders a fitted leather-center skin without covering the vanilla wooden border.

Performance Guidance

A dyed frame is slightly heavier than a completely vanilla frame because it uses the native frame plus one lightweight, zero-hitbox visual marker that stores and renders the leather color. Frames configured with DyeFrameSettings use the same marker system.

Ordinary storage rooms and display walls should be practical, but very dense builds can cost more than the same number of untouched vanilla frames. Add large displays gradually on lower-powered devices, multiplayer servers, and Realms, and test them under the normal number of players expected in the area.

Achievement-Friendly Design

Andy's Dyeable Item Frames is designed to preserve normal achievement eligibility:

Minecraft makes the final achievement-eligibility decision for every world. A world that previously enabled Creative mode, Cheats, Experiments, or an ineligible template may already have achievements disabled; removing an add-on cannot reverse that history.

Compatibility

Resource packs that replace vanilla Item Frame or Glow Item Frame visuals may change the visible wooden border or conflict with the intended appearance. Add-ons that intercept frame placement, interaction, breaking, or drops may also conflict. Test unusual pack combinations in a copied world first.

Troubleshooting

The recipes do not appear

A frame will not take dye

The frame places without its color, appears black, or uses the wrong visual

Items will not insert or rotate

The settings menu does not open

A frame name does not appear

The import fails

An older version still appears
