✨ Why Fresh Ink?
Tired of cartographers selling you the exact same map over and over ?
In vanilla, an explorer map is drawn once when the offer unlocks, every purchase after that is just a copy.
Fresh Ink makes every map one of a kind.
Each purchase charts a brand-new destination on the spot, up to ~2,800 blocks around you so, buy two maps, get two different adventures.
🗺️ Every map is unique : generated at the moment of purchase, never a copy.
🧭 All 10 map trades supported : jungle, swamp, the 5 village types, ocean monument, trial chambers and woodland mansion.
💰 100% vanilla balance : prices, trade levels, quantities and map names untouched.
🛡️ Bulk-buy safe : sealed maps never stack and purchases are never lost : if no destination can be found nearby, the map is refunded and retried automatically 30 seconds later.
🌐 Bilingual : map names follow each player's own game language, the pack's messages switch with a single command.
🧹 Clean & reversible : no terrain changes, no world-gen edits, remove it anytime.
⚙️ How it works
The cartographer sells a « sealed map ✦ ».
The instant it lands in your inventory, Fresh Ink swaps it for a freshly drawn explorer map, with a little sound cue and a confirmation message.
📥 Installation
- Download the
.zip(don't unzip it). - Drop it into your world's
datapacksfolder (Edit World → Open World Folder → datapacks). - Quit and re-open the world — a simple
/reloadis not enough: trade changes only load at world startup. - Minecraft shows an "experimental settings" warning: that's normal (the game classifies any villager-trade edit this way). Click through and play.
New world: use the Data Packs button on the create screen.
Server: put the .zip in world/datapacks/ and restart the server — players don't need to install anything.
🌐 Language / Langue
Messages are in English by default :
To switch (operator permissions required, like /reload):
/function fresh_ink:lang/en → messages in English !
/function fresh_ink:lang/fr → messages in French !
The choice is saved per world, map names always follow each player's own game language automatically.
🧑🌾 Existing worlds & villagers
Adding Fresh Ink to an ongoing worldPerfectly safe : nothing touches terrain or world generation, the trade offers are stamped into each villager the moment they unlock, so:
- Cartographers with already-unlocked map offers keep their old maps for those slots.
- Their next level-ups use Fresh Ink sealed maps.
- Brand-new cartographers use Fresh Ink for everything.
💡 Tip: a cartographer that has never traded can be reset — break its cartography table, let it lose the job, then place the table back: all of its offers reroll with Fresh Ink.
❓ FAQ
Does it work on multiplayer servers ?
Yes ! It's a fully server-side datapack : install it once on the server, players need nothing.
Does it change my world or my gameplay ?
No terrain, world-gen or crafting changes, only the cartographer's 10 map trades are touched so you can uninstall anytime.
Why the "experimental settings" warning ?
Minecraft flags any pack that edits villager trades this way, it's expected and safe, side effect : such worlds can't be uploaded to Realms (a Minecraft rule, not a bug).
Any lag?
Charting a map can freeze the game for a split second, the same structure search vanilla runs when a cartographer levels up. Bulk purchases convert one map per tick to spread the load.
Can I uninstall it?
Yes, you can ! just delete the .zip from datapacks and restart the world, Cartographers that unlocked sealed-map offers while the pack was active will keep an inert souvenir map in those slots : harmless, just pointless.
