What is GraveCompass?
Every grave plugin does the same two things: it holds your items, and it tells you some coordinates in chat.
The first half works. The second half does not — chat is gone the moment three players talk, and writing numbers on a sticky note is nobody's idea of Minecraft.
GraveCompass gives you a compass whose needle actually points at your grave. In the Nether. In the End. Where a normal compass just spins. And everything you need to know is written on the item itself, rewritten every second:
Code (Text):
Grave Compass
» World: world
» At 120, 64, -30
» Distance: 47 blocks <- goes down as you walk
» Yours for 3m 12s <- counts down in front of you
✦ Right-click to teleport there
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
⚰️ The grave
- A head wearing the dead player's own skin, with floating text saying whose it is and how long it stays protected.
- Protected for a while, then open to everyone. That is what makes dying out in the open cost something. Owner-only forever and never-protected are both one number away.
- One grave per player. Earn a new one while the old is uncollected and the contents move across. You never lose anything by dying twice, and no server ends up carpeted in old graves.
- Experience comes back with it, and how much is up to you.
It does not lose your things
This is where most grave plugins quietly fail, so it was built first.
- Died in lava? The grave rises out of it and floats above the surface with everything inside. A player head needs no support, so it simply hangs there.
- Nowhere to place it? The items drop the vanilla way and the player is told — never silently deleted.
- Server killed hard and the world lost the block? The grave puts itself back on the next start. Your data was never in the world file.
- Somebody built where it stood? It moves to the nearest free spot instead of destroying their block.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
What you can sell
Two things, and both are configured the same way: how often a player gets a grave, and how often they can teleport to it.
Code (Text):
grave-cooldowns:
default:
permission: 'gravecompass.cooldown.grave.default'
minutes: 10
vip:
permission: 'gravecompass.cooldown.grave.vip'
minutes: 5
admin:
permission: 'gravecompass.cooldown.grave.admin'
minutes: 0
- The block name is only a label for you. What counts is the permission and the number.
- The lowest number among the ranks a player holds wins — stacking ranks can never punish them.
- Anyone holding none falls back to default. 0 means no wait at all.
- Add or remove ranks freely. Nothing else in the plugin needs to change.
Teleporting also needs gravecompass.teleport, which nobody has by default — not even ops. Players without it still see the world, the coordinates and the distance, plus a line you write yourself telling them what they are missing and where to get it.

⌨️ Commands
Base: /grave · aliases /graves, /gc, /tumba
- /grave compass — get the compass to your grave
- /grave list — your grave and where it is
- /grave near — the graves around you (admin)
- /grave reload — reload config and language (admin)
⚙️ Configuration
- The config updates itself. A new version brings its new options in with their documentation, and keeps everything you changed.
- All four language files do too — not just the one you selected, so switching language never hands you an outdated file.
- Turn graves off per world, for your arena or minigame maps.
- Sounds, particles, hologram range and the dark box behind the text are all yours to tune.
⚠️ Using WorldEdit? Read this
WorldEdit claims the plain compass as its navigation wand, so any staff member holding its permissions gets thrown to wherever they are looking on right-click. GraveCompass takes the click first and stops that. If anything still fights you, switch the item to RECOVERY_COMPASS in the config — it exists since 1.19, it fits the theme, and WorldEdit does not touch it.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Installation
- Drop the jar in plugins/ and start the server. No dependencies.
- Pick your language in config.yml: en, es, fr or zh.
- Give gravecompass.teleport to the rank that should be able to teleport.
- Set your ranks in grave-cooldowns and teleport-cooldowns, then /grave reload.
