Carpenter's Delight is a building and woodworking mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 Fabric.
It expands wooden construction without replacing the vanilla style. Combine real plank textures, create log slabs from vanilla and modded woods, stack two different slabs in one block, rotate compatible blocks with a reusable blueprint, and protect wooden builds with Fireproof Powder.
Features
Mixed planks made from real textures
Combine two different plank blocks in the Carpenter's Bench to create a mixed-plank block using the actual textures of both source woods.
- Uses the real baked block textures from Minecraft and installed mods.
- Supports resource-pack replacements for compatible source textures.
- Two opposite faces display one complete wood texture each.
- The other four faces use a continuous stepped mixture of both woods.
- The order of the two Carpenter's Bench inputs determines which wood occupies each solid face.
- Every mixed block supports all 24 complete cube orientations.
Connected and symmetric placement
Placing a mixed-plank block against an identical mixed block can automatically copy its full orientation, keeping the two solid faces and the surrounding mixed pattern aligned.
- Normal placement: automatically align with a matching adjacent mixed block.
- Shift while placing: bypass automatic alignment and use manual orientation.
- Shift + Right Click in the air while holding mixed planks: enable or disable symmetric placement.
Carpenter's Bench
The Carpenter's Bench is the central workstation of the mod. Its base uses the texture of the logs used to craft it, including compatible modded logs.
Its five-slot interface supports three operations:
- Mixing: two different planks produce two matching mixed-plank blocks.
- Splitting: two mixed blocks return one plank from each original source wood.
- Log cutting: one supported log produces two true log slabs.
Craft a Carpenter's Bench with one iron ingot above three identical logs. The three logs determine the appearance of the crafted bench.
True log slabs
Carpenter's Delight automatically creates real slab blocks for supported vanilla and modded logs that do not already have a matching slab.
- Uses the source log's real textures.
- Supports bottom, top, double and waterlogged slab states.
- Behaves like a normal Minecraft slab instead of a decorative fake block.
- Avoids replacing slabs already supplied by another mod.
Stack two different slabs
Place a different slab into the empty half of an existing slab to combine both materials inside the same block space.
- Either material can occupy the upper or lower half.
- Breaking the combined block returns both original slab items.
- Supports vanilla slabs, Carpenter's Delight log slabs and standard modded slab blocks.
- Mining behavior, required tool, sound and particles follow the most resistant material.
Fireproof Powder
Combine Fireproof Powder with an eligible flammable wooden block in a crafting table to receive the same block in a fireproof form.
- Keeps the original block, texture and normal building properties.
- Prevents the protected block from burning or being destroyed by fire.
- The fireproof state remains attached when the block is broken and collected.
- Supports eligible vanilla and modded planks, logs, slabs, stairs, fences, gates, doors and trapdoors.
- Use Fireproof Powder directly on a placed mixed double slab to protect both halves.
Craft four Fireproof Powder with one Bone Meal, one Clay Ball and one Quartz.
Blueprint
The Blueprint rotates compatible blocks after placement without breaking them.
- Right Click: rotate the targeted block horizontally by 90 degrees.
- Shift + Right Click: rotate it vertically around the player's local right axis.
- Preserves the complete mixed-plank face arrangement and texture continuity.
- Also supports common vanilla-facing and axis properties when the targeted block allows it.
Craft the Blueprint shapelessly with one Paper, one Blue Dye and one Feather.
Automatic mod and resource-pack compatibility
Carpenter's Delight discovers compatible woods from the installed block registry and reads their actual baked models instead of relying on a fixed texture list.
- Compatible plank textures can be mixed automatically.
- Compatible logs can receive true log slabs automatically.
- Resource packs can replace the source textures used by mixed planks and log slabs.
- Existing dedicated log slabs from other mods are not duplicated.
Because compatible modded blocks are registered from the installed mod list, multiplayer clients and the server should use the same relevant mods.
Performance
The mod is designed to keep its dynamic building systems lightweight.
- Mixed planks and log slabs are normal registered blocks.
- Mixed double slabs use one shared carrier block instead of registering every possible pair.
- The mixed-slab block entity never ticks.
- Mixed-slab models are baked into chunks and cached by material combination.
- No per-frame block-entity renderer is used.
Recipe viewer integration
Optional integrations are included for EMI and JEI, including a dedicated Carpenter's Bench recipe category.
