BOSSES:
THE BLACK BARON, GILLES DE RAIS

he Black Baron is a tall, 7 block tall knight covered with blackened steel and gold trimmed full 15th century armor, all whilst wielding a giant steel longsword, and gazing behind the armet with incredibly intense blue menacing eyes.
This boss is based fully on serial killer, Gilles de Rais.
His armor is based from this artwork:

- Historical Role: He fought alongside Joan of Arc during the Hundred Years' War and was appointed a Marshal of France in 1429 at a young age.
- Downfall and Legacy: His life took a dark turn later on when he was accused, tried, and executed in 1440 for horrific crimes including child murder and sorcery, later becoming a likely inspiration for the folkloric tale of Bluebeard. (that's why his eyes are blue)
There is a bunch of references (almost entirely based on historical accuracy back then!)
IN-GAME GENERAL:
Health Points: 500
Mob Type/Family: Monster, Boss
On Contact: Immovable, large hitbox.
• Can destroy any surrounding blocks at passive.
Entity Name: The Black Baron
Based Name: Gilles de Rais
SOUND EFFECTS:
DIALOGUES: [His voice is deep, monstrous and partially inaudible and coming behind his armet (it's reverbed too!)]
• When Spotting a Target:
- "You walk with such heavy steps... Have you no manners?"
- "Excuse You!"
• When Idle:
- *Chuckle* "....child."
• When Attacking:
- *An inaudible growl.*
- "Excuse You!"
- "Pardon Me!"
- "Hold Still Just for a Moment."
• In the death animation:
- *Chuckle*.... "If that's how hard I am to kill...... I shall do it myself."
Death animation speciality:
• He commits into killing himself instead of being killed by the player. This shows immense arrogance and connection to his negative, prideful, and sinful beliefs.
All attacks have custom audio.
Spawn and death animation have custom audio.
Walking animation and hurt hit have custom audio.
He has a custom OST made by me, purely original.

ATTACKS:
Attack Damage Range:
• For Players: 19-21 Physical Damage
• For Mobs (AOE):
Attacks the following mobs:
• The Undead
• Player
• Bosses (including himself)
[•] ATTACK TYPES:
Attack 1: Descending Running Strike (Laufendes Hau)
• The boss quickly raises the longsword into a high Vom Tag guard while taking an aggressive passing step forward with the right leg. As the blade violently falls into a vertical overhead slam, the boss executes a second explosive passing step with the left leg, planting the foot precisely at the moment of impact to channel the full kinetic weight of its armored body into the ground.
Attack 2: Tactical Cut-to-Thrust Sequence (Zornhau Ort)
• The boss delivers a rapid, two-handed diagonal slash from top-left to bottom-right to force a defensive reaction from the player. It then abruptly halts its momentum, pulling the hilt back to the hip in the Pflug position for a brief tactical pause before explosively driving the blade point forward via consecutive, high-velocity lunges with the right and left legs to maximize penetration reach.
Attack 3: Inverted Doubling Combo (Mordhau Duplieren)
• Gripping the sword by the blade in the inverted Mordhau position, the boss executes a swift wind-up and delivers a heavy, descending diagonal smash from top-left to bottom-right targeting the ribs. Instead of fighting the top-heavy weapon's momentum upon a miss, the boss violently pivots its hips and torso to redirect that kinetic energy into an immediate, devastating reverse ascending strike from bottom-right to top-left.
Attack 4: Passing Thwart from the Plow (Wechselndes Zwerchhau)
• The boss drops into a low, defensive Pflug guard before exploding forward with a heavy passing step, throwing the longsword high into a brief, suspended hold. Suddenly, the boss pivots its giant torso sideways and unleashes a hyperfast, horizontal Zwerchhau across its front area, tearing through the air. At the tail end of the swing, the momentum halts into a brief recovery window where the boss clutches the longsword tightly near its hip, locking into a low, stabilized pose that mirrors a rigid Eastern stance.
Attack 5: Chained Under-Cut to Single-Handed Thrust (Sturzhau und Einhorn)
• The boss freezes in an elegant, calculated charging pose, momentarily dropping its target tracking to chamber the massive blade. Breaking the silence, it violently pivots downward to unleash a heavy, low-sweeping strike across its front before instantly reversing the momentum into an upward, one-handed Unterhau with only its left arm. The right hand completely releases the hilt, letting the unchecked weight of the greatsword whip upward on pure momentum, before the boss snaps its right hand back onto the grip, re-engaging its footing for a sudden, explosive lunge that drives a devastating Sprechfenster thrust entirely across the arena floor.

ATTACKS' CONTEXT:
These techniques are pulled directly from 14th- and 15th-century European combat manuals, proving that medieval knightly fighting was an exact science rather than clumsy hacking.
— Vom Tag (From the Roof) is a high, aggressive guard that threatens a powerful downward strike.
— Pflug (The Plow) is a low, hip-level stance mimicking a plow's angle to protect the torso and prime an explosive thrust.
— When a knight advanced, they used a Laufendes Hau (Running Strike) to seamlessly blend rapid, continuous footwork with a descending blow to overwhelm an opponent's defense with their full body weight.
— In closer engagements, a Zornhau Ort (Wrath Cut to Point) functioned as a tactical combo where a brutal diagonal slash seamlessly transitioned into a deadly, precise thrust to exploit armor gaps.
— If facing a fully armored opponent, a knight would utilize Mordhau Duplieren (Doubling Murder-Stroke), gripping their own blade to turn the sword into a warhammer and using fluid, uninterrupted momentum to deliver rapid, consecutive blunt-force strikes with the crossguard.
Additional Information:
— Each attack impact destroys a 7x0x7 area.
Abilities:
— Knight in Darkened Armor: Reduces damage of entities up to 50%
— Greedy Bastard: Regeneration of health kicks in when not getting hit by entities after 2 seconds. Healing interval is based on the Black Baron's current health points.
Spawning:
The Black Baron can only be found haunting the world's freezing, snow-covered biomes, specifically lurking atop flat terrain or high slopes where deep snow layers accumulate.
— He has an approximate 2.35% chance to appear as a lone wanderer during any nighttime monster spawn cycle.
— Interact his self-impaled body using right-click or hold, and you will make wake him up.

All of the References and Symbolism:
• The Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA). Used as a direct reference for his attacks.
• Blue eyes behind the armet: Connection to the folklore Bluebeard, which was inspired by himself after he died.
• Being a boss itself: Reputation as a Serial Killer.
• Blackened steel armor with golden trims: Based on the historical and legendary 15th century full plate armor.
• "Rich Man" OST Title: Him being a Baron, noble, and wealthy. Ironically, spending the wealth into negative fulfilments.
• Voice dialogues, tone, and mood: The eerie perspective of people towards him (deep, echoed voice) after being exposed and his descent to madness (the dialogues and the parially inaudible audio)
• Stabbed posture before summoning him: His beliefs and satanic connections, alongside mimicking the people he slaughtered.
• Suicide on death animation: His arrogance and beliefs.
• Stab to the ground longsword and his "noble-like" laying posture on idle: His nobility and ironic mindset.
DR. LANTERN, JACK THE RIPPER

Dr. Lantern is a 7.25 tall, slender figure covered with a very dark leather trenchcoat with a blazing giant red necktie, tucked in with high-waist similar-colored pants with muddy boots. In his right hand, he holds a glooming lamp only visible in the first phase, and a menacing throat-cutting long surgical Liston knife on his left hand.
This boss is based fully on the legendary serial killer, Jack the Ripper.

His appearance was based on the mixed evidences provided by his victims.
• Dark, Wide-Brimmed Hat (Fedora): In the night of the Double Event (September 30, 1888) and a witness named Israel Schwartz, explicitly stated that he saw a man attacking Elizabeth Stride in Gateway/Dutfield's Yard. In his official police report, he pinpointed that the attacker was wearing a "wide-brimmed, black felt hat
• The Long Red Tie: When evaluating the primary suspects in Macnaghten's famous 1894 memorandum, Macnaghten characterized the killer as belonging to the lower classes based on the eyewitness descriptions provided by the local residents of Whitechapel.
• Salt and Pepper Texture: At around 1:35 AM on September 30, 1888—just ten minutes before Catherine Eddowes’ body was discovered mutilated in Mitre Square—Lawende walked out of a club with his friends. As he walked down the street, he spotted a man and a woman talking in the shadows. When police later interviewed him, Lawende gave a highly detailed description of the man, explicitly stating that he was wearing a loose fitting "pepper-and-salt colored jacket" (or tweed coat), a grey cloth peaked cap, and a red handkerchief tied around his neck.
• Dark, High Waisted Trousers: At around 11:45 PM on August 31, 1888—just a few hours before Mary Ann Nichols became the very first canonical victim—Marshall spotted a man talking to her on Hanbury Street. In his official police testimony, Marshall noted that the suspect looked like a clerk, wasn't wearing a jacket, and had on distinct dark, high-waisted trousers typical of a working-class or lower-middle-class man of that era.
• The Muddy Boots: While it was Thomas Cutbush’s mother and aunt who originally noticed him constantly returning home in the early morning covered in filth, it was Macnaghten who formally recorded it in the official Scotland Yard case files. In his documentation, he explicitly pinpointed that Cutbush "rambled about at night" and would frequently return to his house with mud-splattered and occasionally blood-stained clothing and boots.
• The Lamp: Referenced to the 1888 foggy streets, covered with yellow smog; the only visible light sources are the Victorian Street Lamps.
• The Liston Knife: Specifically, Dr. George Bagster Phillips (the division surgeon who examined Annie Chapman and Mary Jane Kelly) and Dr. Thomas Bond noted that the deep, clean incisions and the precise removal of organs showed a high degree of anatomical knowledge. They concluded that the weapon had to be a strong, heavy, extremely sharp blade about 6 to 8 inches long—which perfectly matches the exact technical dimensions of a Victorian Liston amputating knife.

ATTACKS:
Attack Damage Range:
• For Players: 11-34(+multiplier for phase 2) Physical Damage
• For Mobs (AOE): 34+ (the nearer the proximity, damage stacks up)
Attacks the following mobs:
• Player
• Entities that damage it.
[•] ATTACK TYPES:
Attack 1: Flurry Thrust
Doctor Lantern freezes to charge his energy for several tense seconds before launching into a sudden, powerful forward leap toward his target with his left arm thrust forward. During this lunging motion, multiple cloud flurries of rapid-fire slashes erupt around his body to deal heavy, repeated multi-hit damage to anyone caught in his path. After the momentum carries him forward, he maintains his aggressive thrusting posture for a few moments before executing a slow, deliberate recovery back into his default stance.
Attack 2: Ghost Flashstep Flick
Embodying pure deception, Doctor Lantern calmly flash-steps toward the player while hiding his right arm beneath his coat and masking his Liston knife completely behind his back to catch targets off guard. The moment he executes a second rapid flash-step, he flicks the blade forward in a blinding instant, generating an explosive force that aggressively launches all nearby entities massive horizontal distances away. Once the strike connects, he smoothly cuts the momentum and resets into a calm, collective posture.
Attack 3: Tornado Combo
Doctor Lantern delivers an elegant, swift slash from right to left, immediately reversing his momentum from the downward position to throw a vicious upward-diagonal strike that launches targets so high into the air they almost touch the clouds. Just before the second strike concludes, he flash-steps forward to execute a rapid 360-degree spin pivoting his entire body, followed instantly by a reverse 360-degree spin backward. Both of these consecutive spins unleash a massive, high-damage area-of-effect cloud flurry that completely shreds surrounding entities before he slowly and aggressively recovers from his stance.
Attack 4: Aggressive Double-Slash
Designed to catch players completely off guard, Doctor Lantern pivots low to the left at extreme speed and violently unleashes a sharp, upward-curving slash from left to right. Without a single frame of hesitation, he immediately channels the momentum from the end of that curve to follow up with a brutal, rapid cross-cut from right to left. He completes the quick sequence by breaking out of the combat animation with a sharp, highly aggressive recovery frame.
Attack 5: The Golden Flurry
Doctor Lantern drops into a low, terrifying crouch to pivot his entire body before sweeping his left arm up in a sharp curve and aggressively pulling back to unleash his ultimate move. He erupts into a hyper-fast, chaotic storm of luminous golden cloud slashes that deals massive, heavily buffed multi-hit damage across a devastating 8-block radius for nearly 3 seconds. He elegantly concludes this relentless blender sequence with a final top-to-bottom downward arc of his blade before slowly standing back up to his full, imposing height.
Additional Information:
— Unlike The Black Baron, he doesn't destroy blocks around him — instead, he unleashes invisible shockwaves.
— His phase 2 transformation includes him throwing and hurling his lantern upwards, creating an ear defeaning explosion from the detonated lantern, completely flooding the entire forest with the infamous dark thick smog.
Phase Information:
Phase 1:
• Soundtrack that plays: "I'll Catch My Prey"
• Activates the ability, Lunar Darkness.
• HP: 500

Phase 2:
• Soundtrack that plays: "Lantern '88"
• Activates all inactive abilities.
• Heals fully back and HP becomes 1,000.

Abilities:
— Ghost Camoflauge: Upon hitting phase 2, he becomes permanently transparent. In this state, he can only be damaged only and strictly up in the head.
— Explosion Buff: Upon triggering the lantern explosion transition at Phase 2, he gains permanent status effects. He gains speed, strength, and resistance.
— Dark Runway: Upon phase 2, a massive, ginormous fog around him appears, completely covering a wide 96-block radius of blocks, covered with dark imposing particles of black clouds.
— Lunar Darkness: Upon spawning at phase 1, the time is forced to be set at night time, the moon can be repeatedly seen spinning around in its position in the sky. Beds have no effect, or even commands.
— Super Lunar Darkness: Upon triggering phase 2, the time is forced to be set at midnight this time, the moon can still be repeatedly seen spinning around in its position in the sky. Beds also have no effect, or even commands.
Spawning:
Dr. Lantern's lantern can only be found at the terrifying Pale Garden.
— The floating lantern has an approximate 1.4% chance to appear glowing in the darkness during any nighttime monster spawn cycle.
— Right click the lantern and you will summon him via interaction.

All of the References and Symbolism:
• His appearance: Built by and based on the mixed and combined witnesses' evidences.
• His glowing red eyes: Blood-thirst and malice.
• Phase 2 Lantern explosion: Highlights the chaos and abrupt noticeable change he did in London, where he introduced himself initially as Jack the Ripper.
• His Lantern: The iconic victorian street lamp poles, the only things illuminating the dark alleyways and streets of London.
• His voice line "Dear Boss!": Showcases the infamous letter he gave mocking the officials and authorities, starting the letter with Dear Boss, in which iconically cementing history with the sign at the end of the letter.
• Dark massive fog: The incredibly dense fog engulfing the streets of London at night time.
• Orange-golden to dark explosions: Simple — spookiness and the dark fog alleyway of London, the yellow mists.
• Infinite Night/Midnight: Showcases the time of Jack did the killings ranging from late-night to early morning hours. Showcases the terror and genuinely terrifying presence of his too.
• Camoflauge and translucent appearance: His ghostly figure mimics early folklore (where his name was based from), specifically Spring-heeled Jack, a folkloric character in British lore.
• His elegance and gentlemanic aggressiveness (seen from animations): Based on the main Hollywood misinterpretation, showcasing how Jack the Ripper can get twisted for entertainment. It includes mainly the iconic mistaken interpretations, but I rather turned it as "part" of his identity.
