Introduction

EpicSkullKeeper is a lightweight plugin focused on solving the Minecraft player head data loss problem.
Have you ever experienced this frustration: you carefully collected a custom player head (with Lore, custom name, skin, CustomModelData, etc.), but once you place it on the ground and break it again, all the data is lost and it becomes a plain blank player head?

This is a limitation of vanilla Minecraft — block states can only store the SkullOwner of a head, not the complete ItemStack NBT data. EpicSkullKeeper was built to solve exactly this problem.

✨ Features
Complete Data Preservation: After placing and re-breaking, all ItemStack data of the head is fully restored
Custom display name (DisplayName)
Lore description
Player skin (SkullOwner / PlayerProfile)
CustomModelData
PersistentDataContainer data
Custom ItemStack data written by other plugins
Zero Configuration: Works out of the box, no configuration files needed
Zero Data Files: Does not generate any plugin data folder or files
No Database Dependency: Does not use SQL / SQLite / MySQL / YAML / JSON at all

World Auto-Save: Data is directly stored in the Skull block entity (Block Entity) and is auto-saved with the chunk
Anti-Duplication Mechanism: Directly replaces vanilla drops, never produces duplicate drops

High Compatibility: Compatible with most other head plugins and auto-pickup plugins

How It Works

Code (Text):
Original player head ItemStack
        ↓
Player places the head
        ↓
Get the Skull BlockState after placement
        ↓
Serialize the complete original ItemStack to byte[]
        ↓
Write to Skull BlockState's PersistentDataContainer
        ↓
BlockState.update() writes to the world chunk
        ↓
Automatically saved by Minecraft

When breaking, the process is reversed: read the PersistentDataContainer → deserialize into the original ItemStack → directly replace the vanilla drop.

Installation

  1. Download the plugin: Download EpicSkullKeeper-1.0.0.jar from this post
  2. Put it in the plugins folder: Place the jar file in your server's plugins/ directory
  3. Start the server: Restart or start the server, the plugin will take effect automatically
  4. No configuration needed: The plugin works out of the box without any configuration files

Usage Example
Scenario: Protecting Custom Heads

  1. Obtain a head: A player obtains a custom player head via EpicBeheading or other means
    • Code (Text):
      Name: §6Epic Head

      Lore:

      §7Killed by: Steve

      §7Kill Time: 2026-08-22
    • Includes player skin, CustomModelData, etc.
  2. Place the head: The player places the head on the ground as decoration
  3. Break the head: The player breaks the head again
  4. Perfect restoration: The dropped head is fully restored to its original state before placement
    • Name, Lore, skin, CustomModelData are all preserved
