Essential Tweaks (Essentail Adblocker)

Essential is a great mod. But when it ships inside a modpack, a few of its defaults get in the way: keybinds that collide with everything else in the pack, a Discord Rich Presence slot that is already taken, and an update prompt every time you launch.

EssentialTweaks changes none of Essential's features. It only changes those defaults.

What it changes

• Keybinds start unbound — no more clashes with the rest of your pack. Players can still bind them in the controls menu whenever they want.
• Discord Rich Presence stays off — the slot is left free for mods like SimpleRPC.
• No update indicators — the main-menu flag, the pause-menu indicator and the settings badge stay quiet.
• No launch popups — update notices, auto-install prompts and similar dialogs are skipped.
• Announcements channel hidden — kept out of the Social tab so your chat list stays yours.
• No promotion banners or sale notices during gameplay.
• No "new cosmetic" badges on the wardrobe button.
• No persistent toasts — the notifications that stick around until dismissed.

Every single one of these can be switched off individually in config/essentialtweaks.properties, which is written on first launch. If you like the sale notices but not the keybind changes, that is one line.

The list of blocked launch popups lives in that file too, so if a future Essential version adds a new one, you can silence it without waiting for a mod update.

Missing a version you need? Ask! — adding one is usually quick.

 

Essential moves its internals around between releases, and a mod that hooks into them can break when it does. This one is built so that breaking means doing nothing, never crashing your game: the hooks are Mixins declared with require = 0, so a hook that no longer matches is simply skipped. The update indicators are handled differently again — by telling Essential's own UI there is no update, rather than by patching it.

Because a silent failure is easy to miss, the mod checks itself on every launch and writes a short report to your log:

If a line ever says something other than ok, that tweak is inactive and the log says why. Please make a comment or an issue if you see one — that report is exactly what I need to fix it quickly.

• Essential must be installed. Without it this mod does nothing at all.
