Pick Climber

Pick Climber turns compatible pickaxes into climbing tools for vertical exploration and traversal. Anchor yourself to walls, jump between climbing points, brake dangerous falls, descend across unstable surfaces, and swing beneath ceilings.

Movement, collision checks, durability costs, cooldowns, and anchor positions are validated by the server, making the mechanics suitable for both singleplayer and multiplayer.

Features

• Anchor compatible pickaxes into walls and move between climbing points.
• Perform wall jumps and directional releases.
• Gradually brake dangerous falls instead of stopping instantly.
• Move diagonally while braking or sliding down a surface.
• Use two pickaxes to brake faster, with durability applied to both tools.
• Descend across gravel, sand, powdered concrete, and snow.
• Swing beneath ceilings and release with accumulated momentum.
• Transfer an active anchor between hands with the vanilla swap key.
• Keep one hand free for mining, placing blocks, attacking, or using items.
• Receive a colored anchor indicator showing whether a target is stable, unstable, obstructed, unavailable, or out of range.
• Extend tool and surface compatibility through data-driven tags.

Enchantments

Pick Climber I–III

Improves climbing launches and wall jumps, allowing progressively greater vertical reach.

Sturdy Latch I

Turns unstable surfaces into firm anchor points and reduces their extended recovery cooldown.

Strong Grip I

Allows pickaxes to anchor beneath ceilings, enabling suspended movement and momentum-based swinging.

Strong Grip and Pick Climber are mutually exclusive specializations.

• Installation on both the client and server

No additional mods or libraries are required.

Tool compatibility

Pick Climber supports Minecraft pickaxes and compatible tools included through the pickclimber:climbing_tools item tag.

The wooden pickaxe is excluded by default. Modpack and datapack authors can extend or restrict tool support through the provided tags.

Compatibility has been manually verified with tools from Eternal Starlight and Twilight Forest.
