Bloodsky The Overworld stops at y=320. Keep climbing. At y=640 — exactly twice the build limit — the sky lets go of you, and you cross into the Bloodsky: a realm of living flesh, bone and blood hanging above the world, lit red under a starless dark. Nothing lives there. Whatever you meet, you brought with you.
Getting there
There is no portal to build. You simply have to get high enough.
Route How it works
Gravity Sigil Turns your own gravity over for a minute. Let go and fall into the sky. The intended route.
Ascension Charm One hard shove upward, like a firework. Pairs well with an elytra.
Elytra and rockets The honest way. It is a long climb.
Coming home: climb past y=300 inside the Bloodsky, squeeze a Heartstone, or step
through a Rift Anchor you placed yourself. You arrive falling out of the Overworld sky,
with Slow Falling to catch you.
The realm
Ground of blood stone and flesh turf, cut with gorges and studded with spikes of rock.
Floating islands drift far overhead. Four countries, each with its own palette and fog:
Crimson Expanse — flesh turf over blood stone, the default face of the realm
Marrow Wastes — dry, bright and bone-white
Ichor Basin — clotted ground, pooled with blood
Vein Forest — thick with heartroot and low red trees
Ten structures, grown rather than stamped
Every structure is generated procedurally from its position rather than pasted from a saved
template, so no two are quite alike.
Vein Spire — a hollow horn of muscle with a chamber and loot inside
Heart Chamber — a sealed ventricle sunk into the ground around a beating core, with a
shaft to the surface and the best loot in the realm
Ossuary — a bone hall raised on four pillars
Marrow Arch — a rib of the world arcing overhead
Crimson Monolith — an obelisk veined with crystal
Sinew Grove — red trees, thick and low
Ichor Well — a shaft bored into the ground, brimming with ichor
Bone Cage — a cage held up on a cord of vein
Flesh Bridge — a walkway on pillars, going nowhere in particular
Blood Springs — blood welling up in shallow basins
Loot comes in three tiers: common caches, ruin caches, and the heart chambers.
What you can carry home
24 blocks — blood stone, coagulated blood, blood flesh, flesh turf, marrow, bone bricks
and crimson bricks with stairs and slabs, blood crystal and ichor ore, storage blocks, pulsing
hearts that beat and glow, vein blocks you can climb like a ladder, sinew logs and leaves,
membrane, blood lanterns, blood pools, heartroot, and the rift anchor.
17 items — blood crystals, marrow shards, sanguine ingots, vials of ichor, flesh fruit,
and a full sanguine tool and armour set sitting between diamond and netherite: harder,
slower to swing, repaired with more ingots. Bloodsky tools are hafted with marrow rather than
wood — there are no trees up there worth the name.
Turning gravity over
The Gravity Sigil flips your personal gravity for sixty seconds, in any dimension. It is a
real inversion rather than a visual trick: the mod drives Minecraft's own gravity attribute
negative, so drag, terminal velocity, fluids and knockback all keep working and simply run the
other way.
You fall upward. The ceiling becomes the floor and you walk along it normally. Jumping pushes
you down. And falling up hurts exactly as much as falling down — rise more than a few
blocks before you hit the ceiling and the landing will cost you.
The Codex
An in-game guide book covering every item, block and mechanic, twenty pages of it.
Craft it from a book, a piece of rotten flesh and a redstone dust before you set out, or
find spare copies in caches over there.
Configuration
config/bloodsky-common.toml:
Option Default Meaning
ascensionHeight 640 The Y you must pass in the Overworld to cross over
gravityScale 0.85 Strength of the Gravity Sigil's upward pull
structureRarity 0.055 Chance any given chunk anchors a structure
Requirements
Minecraft 1.21.11 and Forge 61.2.0
No other dependencies
Needed on both client and server
The Bloodsky generates fresh in existing worlds, and your Overworld is left untouched. On a
dedicated server it works with no extra setup — the dimension ships inside the mod.
