What is BetterEconomy Core?
BetterEconomy Core is the shared financial foundation used by BetterEconomy modules and third-party integrations.
It centralises the facts that every economic plugin needs to agree on: parties, accounts, assets, aliases, positions, issued supply, lots, reservations, quotes and ledger operations. This prevents satellite plugins from creating duplicate account systems, incompatible asset definitions or conflicting balances.
Core can provide native balances and player payments in "standalone" mode, but it is intentionally not an all-in-one gameplay economy. Advanced systems belong to specialised modules, while Core keeps all of them interoperable.
Why use one authoritative Core?
- Multi-asset economy — manage currencies, commodities, securities and future asset classes through the same platform.
- Atomic ledger — complex operations commit completely or fail without leaving partial movements behind.
- Retry-safe operations — idempotency protection prevents duplicate payments after retries, reconnects or crashes.
- Universal accounts — represent players, companies, institutions, treasuries, escrow and custody accounts consistently.
- Supply and position tracking — audit issued supply, account positions, lots and reservations separately.
- Shared registries — one canonical source for account endpoints, asset names, aliases, roles and taxonomies.
- Module coordination — namespace ownership and capability-aware sessions keep integrations isolated and predictable.
- Public developer API — build external plugins against a documented, stable API without accessing the Core source code.
Chose between Standalone and Bridge
STANDALONE
Core owns the native ledger and supplies the base Vault economy. No external economy plugin is required.
BRIDGE
Connect Core to an existing Vault or VaultUnlocked economy provider while retaining the shared BetterEconomy registries and supported platform services. Operations that cannot be represented safely by the selected provider are rejected before any partial movement occurs.
Included player features
- Check personal or permitted player balances
- Send payments to online or offline players
- Use exact asset names and aliases instead of technical identifiers
- View asset-specific balance rankings
- Enable or disable incoming payments
- Use clean, configurable MiniMessage chat and action-bar feedback
Code (Text):
/balance [player] [asset]
/balancetop [asset]
/pay <player> <amount> [asset]
/paytoggle
/ecohelp
Administrators can inspect and manage the platform directly in game:
- Platform and module readiness
- Taxonomies and registered definitions
- Assets, aliases, roles and supply
- Parties, accounts and endpoint resolution
- Auditable ledger operations
- Administrative give, take and set adjustments
Code (Text):
/eco platform status
/eco module list|info
/eco taxonomy list|info
/eco asset list|info|alias|role|supply
/eco account resolve|info
/eco ledger operation <id>
/eco give|take|set ...
- SQLite for an immediate zero-configuration start
- MySQL for larger production environments
- English message catalog with safe bundled fallbacks
- MiniMessage, HEX colours and gradients
- Configurable currency presentation and GUI text
Built for expansion
BetterEconomy Core is designed to coordinate current and future BetterEconomy modules, including Banking and other specialised financial domains. Each module owns its business rules while Core owns the shared identities, registries and financial facts.
Third-party developers can also connect through a namespace-bound ModuleSession, publish their own definitions and quotes, react to platform events and submit authorised ledger operations.
Requirements
- Paper 1.21.6 or newer
- Java 21
- Vault or VaultUnlocked: optional in STANDALONE, required for a Vault-backed BRIDGE
Installation
- Download BetterEconomyCore-1.0.0.jar.
- Place it in the server's "plugins" folder.
- Start the server once to generate the English configuration files.
- Choose STANDALONE or BRIDGE in "config.yml".
- Restart the server.
Developer API
The public SDK includes:
- bettereconomycore-api — compile-only/provided API dependency
- Offline Javadocs — browsable locally or attachable to an IDE
- bettereconomycore-testkit — fixtures for automated integration tests
- A complete example module and integration guides
Important scope note
BetterEconomy Core is the infrastructure layer of the BetterEconomy ecosystem. It intentionally focuses on reliable shared accounts, assets and operations rather than bundling every bank, company, market or gameplay mechanic into one plugin.
Install specialised BetterEconomy modules when you want those domain features; Core ensures that they share one coherent economy.
One Core. Endless Possibilities.
