Rougher Environment

by Real_Sebastiago · on Modrinth

Applies a noise gradient to places where it probably shouldn't be in to break up repeated surfaces. Free Minecraft Java mod for 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2.

Which Minecraft do you have?

Every version of the game needs its own build. Pick yours, then download — the wrong build installs fine and then does nothing in the game. This mod is built for Fabric only.

I don't know my version or loader
Open the Minecraft launcher and look at the profile you play on — it names both, like fabric-loader-1.21.4. The version also shows in the bottom-right corner of the game's main menu.
No loader in the profile name? Then it's plain Minecraft, and these mods won't run — you need Fabric or NeoForge installed first.

Forked from Jaredlll08's Ambient Environment

Applies a noise gradient to places where it probably shouldn't be in to break up repeated surfaces.

Uses the core logic from Ambient Environment but applies it to more places.

* Sand is slightly darker in some spots, which makes deserts look like they have waves in flatter places.
* Lava has dark spots, similar to how it looks in some shaders.

All of this was done by modifying the base methods used in Ambient Environment

Performance

When using render distances above 32 (for example, 64 like I do), this mod can produce small frame drops when loading new chunks, this impact is almost unnoticable as it is combined with regular chunk loading lag at such high distances.
When deactivating biome blending leaves can appear weirdly transparent (this is most likely why the original doesn't do this for leaves), this is only if you have see-through leaves enabled.

Compatibility

This mod should be compatible with all other mods and texture packs that change sand and lava however, due to how tinting works in minecraft the textures may look weird, if you want them to look normal I recommend changing them yourself to be grayscale (also apply a 50% LCh Color layer blend if you want them to fully look like the textures I modified).

Disclaimers

Since the noise works off of position, this mod can leak your cordinates similar to how grass can so be carefull out there
