Better Chat

Better Chat makes Minecraft chat better: Discord-style text formatting, emoji, searchable history and mention pings. Everything is client-side, so only people who also have the mod see the changes.

Your messages are never altered. Type **hello** and the mod sends exactly **hello**. Players without the mod read it fine, and the server, its chat filters and signed-message verification all see the same characters you typed. Nothing here bypasses server rules.

Text formatting

• **bold** bold
• *italic* or _italic_ italic
• __underline__ underline
• ~~strikethrough~~ strikethrough
• ||spoiler|| scrambled until you hover it
• `code` monospace
• Combine them: ***bold italic***
• Put a backslash first to show the markers instead: \**like this\**

Things that shouldn't change don't: 2 * 3 * 4 stays arithmetic, some_var_name stays intact, and links are left alone.

Emoji

284 emoji, plus a Minecraft pack that uses the real item textures from your own game — so your resource pack applies too.

• Type :name: :fire:, :heart:, :diamond_sword:
• Type just : to list them all, alphabetical and scrollable
• Tab completes, ↑ ↓ to pick
• Ctrl+E opens the emoji picker with a search box
• Search Minecraft items by category: :food, :weapon, :armour, :tool
• Includes every tool and weapon in each material, all armour (shields and elytra too), and all food

Everything else

• Mention pings a sound and a highlight when someone says your name. Nothing the server says will ever ping you.
• Private messages stand out, and you can click one to reply
• Ignore players locally, without involving the server
• Searchable chat history press Ctrl+F
• Tabs All, Chat, DMs, System
• Timestamps
• One settings screen through Mod Menu: pick your mention colour, your alert sound, or switch any of it off

Versions

Available for 1.21.10, 26.1 and 26.2. Emoji work across versions — a 26.1 player and a 26.2 player both running the mod will see each other's emoji.
