Andy's Better Villager Leads

Move adult villagers, baby villagers, wandering traders, and zombie villagers with ordinary leads. Take the next group toward a trading hall, tether them at a fence, or lead them up to an empty boat or minecart for the next part of the journey.

Vanilla-friendly by design

The add-on keeps normal lead items, villager trades, professions, curing, and vanilla visual assets. It does not add trade rerolls, inventory management, teleportation, or general hostile-mob leashing. Zombie villagers retain their normal dangers and wandering traders retain normal despawning.

Requirements

Minecraft Bedrock 26.30 or newer, including 26.45. Activate the included Behavior and Resource Packs. Stable APIs only: no Beta APIs, experiments, cheats, or additional add-ons are required. Standard graphics and Vibrant Visuals are supported by the pack declarations; VV depends on your hardware. Both packs include the add-on product declaration.

Version 1.0.2 is the current release package, correcting an entity load error the 1.0.0 build reported on Bedrock 26.30 and newer. Its manifest and API requirements are validated; achievement eligibility, multiplayer protection, vehicle behavior, and BDS operation should be qualified in-game before publication.

Installation

Windows and desktop

Download the .mcaddon, open it with Minecraft, and activate both packs in a test world. Keep cheats and experiments off. Back up existing worlds first.

Android and iOS

Open or share the downloaded .mcaddon with Minecraft, complete the import, and activate both packs in world settings.

Consoles via Realm

Import and configure the packs using a supported desktop/mobile device, then upload that world to your Realm. Console players join the configured Realm and receive its resources.

Servers and Realms

For Realms, activate both packs on the uploaded world. For BDS, open the .mcaddon as ZIP, extract each inner .mcpack into a separate server pack directory, and add its manifest UUID/version to the world's behavior/resource pack lists. Leave allow-cheats=false and experiments off. Use the console settings below.

Updating

Back up the world, import the newer build, and ensure both active pack versions match. Keep the existing pack identities so saved configuration remains associated with the add-on.

Quick start

  1. Equip a normal lead and interact with a supported mob.
  2. Walk steadily along a clear route.
  3. Use a fence to park the mob, or bring it into contact with an empty boat or minecart.
  4. World owners/operators can adjust categories with /andy_leads:menu.

Longer leads and native pulling

The starting distances are 6 blocks for following, 10 blocks for spring pulling, and 20 blocks for lead breaking. Native dampened springs give more room during transport. Corners, obstacles, and vanilla AI can still interrupt progress; there is no guaranteed unsticking or teleport recovery.

Living-villager convoys

Living adult villagers can hold other leashed entities. For a two-villager convoy, attach both villagers to yourself with two leads first. Keep holding a lead, crouch/sneak, and interact with the intended front villager. Bedrock transfers the other player-held villager to it while the front villager remains attached to you, producing player → front villager → follower. Connecting the two villagers first can make Bedrock choose its retrieval interaction when you later use a lead on the holder; retrieve or cut that link and rebuild in the order above. Native transfer can affect multiple mobs currently attached to you. Zombie villagers, babies, and traders are transport targets; they do not act as convoy holders.

Fence tethering and vehicles

Use normal fence knots to tether supported mobs. Boats and minecarts retain native boarding behavior: bring the mob into contact with an available seat and keep the lead slack. Pulling more than 10 blocks from the passenger can make it dismount. Terrain and seat availability still matter.

Active leash protection

Other players cannot directly steal a lead attached to you. The add-on also blocks lead, shears, and empty-hand controls on supported members of another player's convoy. Use an emerald or another non-control item for trading with an attached villager. Protection is not a permanent claim and does not prevent damage or fence destruction. Fence-ended and unowned convoys are shared.

World settings

Operators open /andy_leads:menu. Each button saves immediately. All settings default to enabled: adult_villagers, baby_villagers, wandering_traders, zombie_villagers (both ages), and convoys.

Disabling a category releases its leads as loaded entities update and prevents new attachments. Disabling convoys releases villager-held connections without disabling direct player leads. Unloaded entities update when loaded. Settings survive restarts; babies switch to adult policy as they grow.

BDS console examples, without a leading slash:

andy_leads:status
andy_leads:set zombie_villagers false
andy_leads:set convoys true
andy_leads:reset

The console works without a connected player and prints confirmation. Members, visitors, NPCs, and command blocks cannot change configuration.

Compatibility

The intended environments are local worlds, multiplayer, Realms, and BDS on Bedrock 26.30+. Native entity definitions are retained from the 26.30 baseline. Behavior packs replacing the same villager, trader, or zombie-villager entities may conflict; pack order does not merge their code. There are no required companion add-ons.

The resource pack declares PBR and preserves vanilla appearance. Individual clients may choose Standard graphics or Vibrant Visuals where supported. Portal travel, infection, curing, and dimension changes have no custom leash-preservation feature. Existing vanilla animal leads remain unchanged.

Troubleshooting

A villager does not accept a lead

Check that its category is enabled, both packs are active, and the correct version is loaded. Allow newly loaded entities to initialize. Test without other entity-overhaul packs.

A passenger leaves its boat or minecart

Keep the lead below the 10-block hard distance or detach it once the passenger has boarded. Check for an available seat and a clear approach.

The menu command is missing or denied

Check the Behavior Pack, Bedrock version, and Content Log. Menu access requires world-owner/operator privileges. Use the direct console commands on BDS.

Leads release after a settings change

Disabling a category or convoy holding intentionally releases its affected leads. Re-enabling allows normal attachment again.

Reporting problems

Report the add-on version, full Bedrock version, platform, world/server type, other active packs, exact reproduction steps, and Content Log errors through the project page or AndyTheMakerMC. Include whether cheats and experiments were off.
