💨 Fast Happy Ghasts

Your happy ghast is twice as fast — and now it has a throttle. A tiny, self-contained datapack for Minecraft 26.2. No mods, no resource pack, no new items to craft: every happy ghast in the world simply flies properly, and the harness you already put on it becomes the control.

⚡ Every ghast, twice as fast

Vanilla happy ghasts fly at about 3.6 m/s — slower than a horse, for a mount you have to grow from a dried ghast. Every happy ghast here flies at 2× that, always, with nothing to enable and nothing to craft.

That is the floor, not the ceiling.

🎨 The harness colour is the throttle

Dye a harness and you have set the speed. Warm and bright is fast, cool and dark is slow, plain white is stock:

Tier Harness Speed
Race red, orange
Fast yellow, pink, magenta
Cruise lime, green, purple 2.5×
Stock white, brown, light blue, cyan
Low blue, light gray 1.8×
Brake black, gray 1.6×

🧪 Splash it, feed it

Stack it all — red harness, Swiftness II, a fresh snowball, flying solo — and you top out at 6× vanilla.

🧳 …but you pay for your cargo

A loaded ghast is a slower ghast. Every passenger past the pilot costs a little speed, and towing a boat or a mob on a lead costs a little more.

It is never slower than vanilla, though. Even the worst case — black harness, full crew of four, towing a boat — still flies faster than a happy ghast does today. That is a guarantee, not a happy accident.

🪶 Built to stay out of the way

No new items, no recipes, no advancement tree, no chat spam. It reacts to what you do — equipping a harness, mounting, feeding a snowball — rather than scanning the world every tick. A ghast parked in a loaded chunk costs literally nothing.

The harness throttle isn't even running code: it rides on the item itself, so the game applies and removes it for you.

📦 Installing

Drop the zip into your world's datapacks folder (or your server's) and /reload. It works on existing worlds — every happy ghast you already own is picked up automatically.

🧹 Removing it

Run this before deleting the pack:

/function fast_happy_ghasts:admin/uninstall

Speed is stored on the ghasts themselves, so deleting the datapack alone would leave them fast forever with nothing left to explain why. The uninstall reaches every ghast in a loaded chunk — if you have ghasts parked far away, load them and run it again.

Requires: Minecraft 26.2. Vanilla — no mods, no loaders, server-side only.
