Better Mount Steering Mod (1.21.1, 1.20.1) – Look Around Freely While Riding

Better Mount Steering Mod frees your camera while riding horses and other mounts in third-person view. The mod lets you look around in any direction with your mouse or gamepad stick without forcing your mount to turn instantly. Pressing movement keys guides your mount toward the camera angle smoothly, giving you natural riding controls during travel and combat.

Features:

Mount Controls:

• Moves the third-person camera separately from your mount without needing extra camera mods.
• Steers your horse or mount toward your viewing direction whenever you press WASD movement keys.
• Prevents Shoulder Surfing Reloaded from pulling your camera angle during decoupled mount steering.
• Adds full analog stick controls for players using the Controllable mod.

Lock-On and Combat Tweaks:

• Replaces the abrupt eight-way body snapping in Better Lockon with smooth body trailing while mounted.
• Removes camera flicker when disengaging a target lock while sitting on a mount.
• Stops the mount body from snapping forward when unlocking a target while sprinting.
• Adjusts Epic Fight third-person camera distance automatically while mount steering is active.

Configuration:

• mountTurnSpeed: Controls how fast your mount turns to match your camera direction.
• smoothLockOnMountTurn: Toggles smooth body turning during target lock-on on mounts.
• bloLockOnTurnSmoothness: Sets the smoothness value for lock-on turns.

How to Use:

1. Mount a horse, donkey, or any rideable mob in your world.
2. Switch to third-person view by pressing F5.
3. Move your mouse or controller stick to look around in any direction without turning the mount.
4. Press W, A, S, or D to guide your mount toward the direction you are facing.
