PaxRomana is a mod themed around Ancient Rome. It adds blocks Romans were famous for (such as concrete and marble), cypress tree, armour set, weapons, tools and wine making system.
PaxRomana tries to balance history accuracy with Minecraft gameplay. Every block and item has history behind it, with wikipedia link provided for people interested in further reading.
Triumphal Arch

In this image:
- Marble - Used not only for decor but also as building material for grand monuments, symbol of wealth.
- Marble generates in big ore patches/blobs above water level, requires pickaxe to mine. Can be crafted into Smooth (+ stairs, slab), Chiseled and Pillar variants.
- Aquila - Golden Eagle was a prominent symbol in Ancient Rome, especially in military. Losing one was the greatest tragedy.[wiki]
- Crafted with sticks and gold block. When placed, gives slow regeneration effect to the nearest player.
- Vexillum - A standard used in Roman military, often bearing number, name or symbol of specific unit.[wiki]
- Gives the same effect as Aquila when placed.
- Lorica Segmentata - Versatile armour used in Ancient Rome, consisting mainly of metal strips, "segments".[wiki]
- Armour set has durability of iron armour. If whole set (4 pieces) is used together with Roman weapon (Gladius or Hasta), it overpowers monster enemy making it unable to attack you for few seconds, and gives the wearer small regeneration effect.
- Iron Gladius - Short sword widely adopted by Romans, typical equipment of a Legionary.[wiki]
- Has higher durability (as it's more expensive to craft), but has slightly smaller reach. Works great with Lorica Segmentata.
Roman Villa

In this image:
- Concrete - When possible, Roman Concrete was made using with addition of volcanic ash. Because of that, even after millennia, it can be more durable and resistant, in some scenarios (like exposure to salt-water), than modern day concrete.[wiki]
- Can be dyed into 16 different variants. It appears less saturated, more rough, than wool blocks.
- Roof Tiles - Classic Roof Tiles we know today come from Ancient Greece, but Romans were the ones who greatly popularized and spread it.
Winery

In this image:
- Grape Plants - Wine was one of most important parts of Roman life, in result making Grapes plantations vital to economy.[wiki]
- 2 variants - Black and White Grapes. Grow 'climbing' blocks like vines, can reach up to 4 blocks tall.
- Dolium - Large earthenware vase used in Ancient Roman times for the fermentation. Usually burried in ground with only top sticking out, or hold inside, while fermenting wine.[wiki]
- Here used to ferment grape juice into wine.
- Amphora - Large, mass-produced, ceramic 'jar'. Primary method of storing and transporting liquid goods like wine, olive oil, and fish sauce (Garum, soon™) in Ancient Rome.[wiki]
- Used to store and consume player made wine.
- Cypress Tree - Tree naturally growing all around Mediterranean Sea, but also in Ancient Rome, a powerful symbol of death, mourning, and the underworld - commonly planted near tombs and used in funeral rites.[wiki]
- Naturally generates in "Shrublands" biome. Has own leaves, log and sapling blocks.
Wine making system
Grapes
- Obtain grape seeds.
- I forgot to add real way to obtain it so last second added crafting to obtain them from normal seeds.
- Plant directly in dirt or grass block.
- Grapes Plant needs block support on at least one side, so it can grow like vines, 'climbing' blocks.
- I'm planning to make them grow on fences also, needs time™
- Wait for it to mature. It can grow up to 4 blocks!
- Harvest with right-click, no need to break whole plant. It regrows fruits much faster this way.
Juice
- Prepare 1x1 hole surrounded by solid blocks.
- With at least 8 grapes in hand of same kind, right click into a hole to place them.
- Jump on grapes 'block'. Traditional stepping will result in juice.
- Scoop the juice with a bucket.
Fermenting into Wine
- Fill Dolium with 3 buckets of the same grape juice. Just right click on it.
- When Dolium is full, right click it with free hand to close it for fermentation.
- Wait
- You'll notice when wine is ready with different texture covering top of Dolium and small particles.
- Fill up to 3 Amphoras with wine.
Enjoy
Wine can be drunk from Amphora hold in hand or placed on ground. It slightly heals user and gives drunken effect, giving speed bonus but making character slightly "slippery".
Other Tools

- Gladius
- Hasta - Classic early spear used by Romans. Hasta was not thrown like other spear variants later used.[wiki]
- Works like a sword, has greater reach (+2), but lower durability (-30%).
- Dolabra - Engineering tool used by soldiers in Ancient Rome. It could be used as pickaxe, but often it combined vertical axe blade. Variant of Dolabra were also used by priests.[wiki]
- Combines axe and pickaxe, is more expensive to craft and is slightly slower on wood. Don't know why, effect didn't work on stone, so only because of that it's not slower on stone.
- Ligo - Entrenching tool used by Roman military, but also could be used in farming.[wiki]
- Combines hoe and shovel, is slightly slower than default items of the same tier.
Required dependencies
- StationAPI - version >= 2.0.0-alpha.6.2
Recommended mods
- BH Creative - PaxRomana has own creative tab with every new item.
- Always More Items - Recomended to see all the recipes added by PaxRomana.
Compatibility
- No known compatibility issues. PaxRomana doesn't use any mixins.
- New items use tags system (like 'c:planks'), so crafting recipes even from other mods should be comaptible if also using tags.
