Realistic Thirst System
You eat. You fight. You mine all day. But when was the last time you had something to drink?
Do you like survival that feels real? Then your character needs water, just like you do. Realistic Thirst System adds a bar of 10 water drops right below your hunger bar, and from the moment you spawn, it starts going down.
Picture this: you are crossing a desert. The sun is high, your bar is dropping twice as fast, and you only have 3 drops left. Your drops start to shake. Your legs get heavy. And the only water you have is a dirty bottle...
What do you do?
Why you will love it
- It looks like it was always part of the game. The bar uses the same pixel style as the vanilla HUD, and the drops shake when you are running low, just like the vanilla bars do.
- The world matters. Deserts and the Nether dry you out twice as fast. Snow and rain give you a break. Planning a trip now means planning your water.
- What you do matters. Standing still is slow, running is fast, jumping costs extra, and every block you break or hit you throw makes you thirstier.
- Dirty water is a trap. It looks like a drink, but it costs you.
- It is simple to learn. No commands and no setup. Install it, play, and keep an eye on your drops.
Make your water safe
Raw Water Bottles are dirty. Cook them, like food:
- Put a Water Bottle in a Furnace, Smoker, Campfire or Soul Campfire.
- You get Purified Water, which restores 5 drops.
- Smokers are faster, and campfires can cook several bottles at once.
Want something better? Craft a juice with a crafting table (shapeless): Purified Water + Sugar + Melon Slice, Apple or Sweet Berries. One juice refills your whole bar.
| Drink | Restores |
|---|---|
| Purified Water | 5 drops |
| Milk | 3 drops |
| Watermelon Juice | 10 drops (full bar) |
| Apple Juice | 10 drops (full bar) |
| Sweet Berry Juice | 10 drops (full bar) |
| Dirty water (raw Water Bottle) | 1 drop, with consequences |
How your thirst works
- Standing still is the slowest, walking is faster, running is much faster and jumping costs extra.
- Desert and Nether: thirst goes down twice as fast.
- Savanna: thirst goes down 1.5 times faster.
- Cold and snowy biomes: thirst goes down 25% slower.
- Rain: thirst goes down 25% slower, but only when you are outdoors. Cold and rain stack.
- Swimming or being in water: thirst does not go down.
- Speed, Jump Boost and Haste effects make you thirstier.
- Hard work makes you thirsty: every block you break and every hit you deal costs a little water.
Do not let the bar run dry
- Dirty water: gives you only 1 drop, takes some of your health and hunger, and gives you nausea for 15 seconds. The drops turn green until it passes.
- 3 drops or less: you get Slowness III, and the drops start to shake.
- 0 drops: you lose health over time and, from time to time, your vision goes black for a few seconds.
Dehydration follows the game difficulty, like vanilla hunger:
- Peaceful: no damage from thirst.
- Easy: thirst can take you down to 5 hearts, but not lower.
- Normal: thirst can take you down to half a heart, but it will not kill you.
- Hard: thirst can kill you, so be careful.
Dirty water never kills you on its own, whatever the difficulty. In Creative mode there is no thirst bar and no damage. Each player has their own thirst bar.
