Maze Engine
Give players a place worth getting lost in.

30 themed presets · Private previews · Personal route guides
Generate a maze, walk through your idea, and make it part of your world.

Explore the documentation · See all 30 themes

Turn a corner of your hub into a garden labyrinth. Give an adventure area its own winding dungeon. Build a new course for your next community challenge. Maze Engine creates the structure and gives you the tools to shape, explore and maintain it.

Choose a theme and size, inspect a private preview, then build when it feels right. Your maze stays saved, its seed can be reused, and a personal arrow guide can lead you to the exit.

01 / FIND YOUR STYLE
One generator. Thirty different atmospheres.

Open gardens, frozen passages, colorful courtyards and enclosed stone corridors. The bundled presets change materials, geometry and generation settings, giving you a starting point that already has its own character.

Hedge: step between leafy walls and follow the garden's winding paths.

Volcanic: dark corridors with glowing magma and warm lighting.

Spoiler: Three more looks: Frost, Dungeon and Crystal
[IMG]
Frost: an open ice maze with a crisp blue palette.

Dungeon: roofed stone passages with inset floor lights.

Crystal: tall purple walls and a complete layout seen from above.

These are in-game screenshots of bundled themes. The preset gallery includes side, interior and overhead views of all 30. Roofs are temporarily removed for overhead photos of roofed themes; their interiors show the restored ceiling.
Browse the complete preset gallery

Make a preset your own. Edit its YAML file to change weighted block palettes, floor materials, wall caps and inlays, roofs, lighting and decorations. Set passage width, wall thickness and wall height independently. Keep a bundled look or create a theme that fits your server.

Choose it in game. Run /maze presets, compare themes and their difficulty labels, hover for details, then click a row to fill in a preview command.
The preset browser shows path width and wall height before you choose.

02 / TRY THE IDEA
See your maze before it becomes your world.

A private preview shows the planned maze using block displays. Only you see it, and your terrain stays untouched. Move around it, check the footprint, and inspect the paths and materials before committing to the build.

A private preview viewed from above. Preview displays do not replace world blocks.

Review the dimensions and theme, then choose Create or Close.

When you are ready, step outside the maze's footprint and click Create. Maze Engine uses the preview's retained seed, theme, dimensions and origin. Close dismisses the preview and removes its displays.

03 / EXPLORE THE PATHS
A way out, whenever you need one.

A good maze invites exploration. When someone needs a hand, /maze solve <name> draws personal arrows toward the exit. The guide follows the shortest route from their current cell and adapts as they move.

Personal route arrows inside a Hedge maze. Other players do not see your guide.

The arrows sit above the floor without changing blocks. Customize their material and color, size and height, look-ahead distance and lifetime. Permission controls let you decide who can use the guide.

04 / SHAPE THE CHALLENGE
Keep the look. Change the journey.

Revisit a favorite layout. Use the same seed, dimensions and preset settings to reproduce it. Share a seed with your builders, or regenerate a saved maze with a new seed for a fresh route.

Choose how paths connect. PERFECT generation gives every pair of cells one connecting route. BRAIDED generation adds loops and alternative routes. Tune complexity separately from the maze's materials and physical dimensions.

Fit the space you have. Choose a cell grid, adjust passage and wall sizes, and place it at your location or explicit world coordinates. With WorldEdit or FAWE, fit a centered maze into a cuboid selection.

Spoiler: Seed and complexity explained in game
[IMG]
Built-in help explains the controls with practical examples. Dimensions are logical cells; the physical footprint depends on passage width and wall thickness.

05 / KEEP IT UNDER CONTROL
Built once. Ready to manage.

Saved layouts, ownership and teleport destinations remain available across server restarts. Browse your mazes with /maze list and open a details panel to see a maze's theme, dimensions, seed, route length and status.

Find a saved maze and click through to its controls.

Teleport, Guide, Repair, Copy seed and Delete in one panel.

Save a custom teleport point with /maze setspawn. Repair damaged structural blocks while keeping the saved layout, or regenerate the maze with another seed. Action permissions and ownership checks control who can manage each maze.

Plan how terrain is handled. SAFE, REPLACE and CLEAR placement modes offer different rules for existing blocks. Enable an original-terrain snapshot with WorldEdit or FAWE when you want to restore the captured area after removing the maze.

Build within your server's budget. Block and time budgets spread world operations across ticks. Configurable cell, volume, chunk and concurrency limits keep the allowed workload in your hands. Saved operation state helps identify interrupted work that needs recovery.

Keep the structure intact. Built-in protection covers player edits and common terrain changes. Mob spawning above maze footprints is blocked by default. Messages, chat buttons, hover text, visual settings and progress bars are configurable.

Spoiler: Repair help and the removal review
[IMG]
Hover help explains the difference between rebuilding and repairing.

Removal asks you to review the area and terrain policy before confirming.

This example has no saved terrain snapshot, so removal clears the maze's bounded volume. Restoration requires a snapshot captured before construction. Repair rewrites planned non-air blocks; it does not preserve additions placed where a wall or floor belongs.

06 / CONNECT YOUR SERVER
Useful on its own. Flexible alongside your tools.

Integrations
Bring your building tools, region rules and server displays into the same workflow.

  • WorldEdit: fit a centered maze into your cuboid selection with --selection. Use --snapshot to capture the original terrain before construction and restore it when you remove the maze.
  • FastAsyncWorldEdit (FAWE): a WorldEdit-compatible alternative for the same selection and terrain snapshot features.
  • WorldGuard: checks region build permissions before an operation and again while blocks are placed, removed or restored. Maze Engine's own bypass permission does not override WorldGuard.
  • PlaceholderAPI: publish maze totals, player ownership, themes, status and progress through any display plugin that supports PlaceholderAPI. The expansion registers automatically; no eCloud download is needed.
  • Public developer API: query saved mazes and routes, submit operations, follow progress and cancellation, and react to completion or failure events from your own plugin.
These integrations are optional. Ordinary maze creation, previews and route guides work without them.
Read the integration guide · Explore the developer API

Placeholders for your displays
Show a server-wide maze count, a player's own collection, or the theme and progress of the maze they are exploring. Put these expressions into your PlaceholderAPI-compatible scoreboard, hologram or menu.

Server totals and ownership
  • %mazeengine_count%: saved maze records.
  • %mazeengine_preset_count%: currently configured presets.
  • %mazeengine_active_operations%: active maze operations, including planning.
  • %mazeengine_owned_count%: saved mazes owned by the supplied player.

A display that follows the player
  • %mazeengine_current_theme%: the theme of their current maze.
  • %mazeengine_current_status%: its saved status, such as Ready or Failed.
  • %mazeengine_current_progress%: operation progress as a number from 0 to 100.

A display for one particular maze
Use %mazeengine_maze_garden_theme%, %mazeengine_maze_garden_status% or %mazeengine_maze_garden_progress% to follow the saved maze named garden, regardless of where the viewer stands. Replace garden with your maze's identifier.

Spoiler: All maze fields and placeholder examples
Every field below works in both forms: %mazeengine_current_<field>% for the player's current maze, and %mazeengine_maze_<name>_<field>% for a named maze.

  • %mazeengine_current_name%: maze identifier.
  • %mazeengine_current_theme%: saved preset's display name.
  • %mazeengine_current_difficulty%: Easy, Medium or Hard theme label.
  • %mazeengine_current_seed%: deterministic generation seed.
  • %mazeengine_current_status%: saved record status.
  • %mazeengine_current_cells_width%: logical width in cells.
  • %mazeengine_current_cells_depth%: logical depth in cells.
  • %mazeengine_current_path_width%: corridor width in blocks.
  • %mazeengine_current_wall_thickness%: wall thickness in blocks.
  • %mazeengine_current_wall_height%: wall height above the floor.
  • %mazeengine_current_roof%: whether the maze has a roof: true or false.
  • %mazeengine_current_route_length%: entrance-to-exit cell transitions.
  • %mazeengine_current_dead_ends%: dead ends in the saved layout.
  • %mazeengine_current_progress%: active percentage; an idle Ready maze returns 100, other idle states return 0.
  • %mazeengine_current_snapshot%: whether the record indicates an original-terrain snapshot: true or false.

For example, %mazeengine_maze_garden_route_length% shows the route length of garden, while %mazeengine_current_route_length% shows it for the maze the player is inside.

Values refresh every 10 ticks. Current-maze placeholders return empty text outside a saved maze's volume; named-maze placeholders return empty text when that maze is missing. Counts include saved records even when they are busy or failed.

Test an expression in game with /papi parse me %mazeengine_count%.
