Familiar-feeling extras for automation, combat and survival arrive with Vanilla Upgrade, an add-on that aims to match the style of the original game. It uses scripting APIs, so Experimental Features must be enabled in the world settings.

New utility blocks include the Advanced Hopper and Advanced Observer, and the Charge Block opens up new redstone ideas. The Giant Zombie and Illusioner join the world as creatures, and items include the Crashgame, Crystalized Experience, Climb Rope, Bandager, Blind, Chorus Chomper, Icecube and a Get Light Level item. Lingering Potion and Splash Potion variants widen what potions can do. The overall look stays faithful to the vanilla game.
