Bring the madness of Carcosa to your Minecraft server.

King in Yellow is a Paper plugin inspired by Robert W. Chambers' The King in Yellow and the broader Lovecraftian mythos. It adds the Forbidden Play, a set of cosmic horror events, player transformations, and a dedicated Void dimension — all controlled through a single /ky command.

Perfect for horror maps, roleplay servers, Halloween events, or any server that wants to inject a little madness into its world.

Features

📖 The Forbidden Play

Give any player a written book containing the four stanzas of the Play. Once they read it to the end, their vision blurs — and they become marked. From that moment, admins can trigger events on them.

The book contains the original English text of the Play:

Along the shore the cloud waves break, The twin suns sink behind the lake, The shadows lengthen In Carcosa.

🌑 Cosmic Events

Trigger unsettling events on any player who has read the Play:

Event	Description
dizziness	Applies Nausea II and Slowness II for the given duration
bell_toll	Distant bells echo around the player
whisper	Sends a private golden message only the target can see
false_message	Sends a chat message in the target's name — other players see it, the target doesn't (configurable)
void_world	Pulls the player into the Void for a set duration

👁 Transformations

Turn players into entities of the mythos. Transformations use spectator mode + particle-based visuals:

/ky transformation king	Become the King in Yellow
/ky transformation phantom	Become a black humanoid Phantom
/ky transformation off	Remove any transformation

🌀 The Void

A fully separate dimension built from a 160x160 black concrete box, with a 150x150 platform floor.

/ky events void_world	Timed void event
/ky admin_void_tp	Free void teleport (no timer)
/ky admin_void_tp back	Return player to where they were

Players in the Void cannot fly, break blocks, place blocks, or leave the platform.

👑 Summon the King

The King in Yellow circles around the target as a swirling particle entity, occasionally fading out and reappearing.

/ky spawn King on/off

🎭 Play Control

Force-read the Play or revoke a player's ability to read it.

/ky Forbidden_play on/off

Installation

1. Drop the .jar into your plugins/ folder.
2. Start the server (Paper 1.21.11+).
3. Use /ky in-game. Requires OP or kingyellow.admin.

On first run, the plugin creates a kingyellow_void world. Do not delete it — it stores the Void dimension.
