Version 1.1.0

Give players something worth opening. CoveCrates lets you create custom reward crates, place them around your world, and hand out keys for animated openings. Build and manage your crates in game, with clear previews for players and a guided editor for owners.
- Choose Empty, Vote, Daily or Legendary as a starting template, enter a name, and customize the rewards. Templates provide editable sample rewards; connect your voting or reward system separately to grant keys automatically.
- Copy item stacks straight from your inventory, including their names, lore, enchantments and custom model data. Quick add stays open while you select several items. Your inventory items are never consumed.
- Use item, experience, console-command and money rewards. Set selection weights, choose rarities, and find rewards with search and sorting.
- Keep edits private until you publish. Saved drafts, undo/redo, input validation and a publish report help you make changes with confidence.
- Get a placeable crate chest from the editor and place it normally, or link an existing solid block to a crate.
- Players left-click a placed crate to preview rewards. Right-click with a matching physical key to open it; stored virtual keys also work.
- Add native holograms, floating or spinning item displays, and optional particles. Quiet, Hologram and Showcase presets make setup quicker. No separate hologram plugin is required.
- Use physical keys or virtual balances, with crate-specific, universal, scoped and timed key options.
- Design physical keys with a custom name, description, item, model data and glow. Copy an inventory item’s appearance, then publish your design before issuing new keys.
- Physical keys use saved one-use authorization to prevent repeat redemption against the same database. Keys waiting for inventory space can be collected later with /crates key claim.
- Give keys from the editor’s player picker or staff commands. Key administration targets currently need to be online.
- Choose from ten opening styles: Roulette, Wheel, Case, Cards, Burst, Instant, Custom, Cascade, Reveal and Pulse.
- Adjust opening duration, try an animation without spending keys or granting rewards, or build a custom cosmetic timeline.
- Choose Default, Ocean, Gold, Amethyst or Emerald menu themes. Advanced layout controls let you change menu titles, rows, filler items and control positions.
- Offer single or batch openings according to your server settings and the player’s available keys. Preview-to-opening navigation and Open again keep the flow easy to follow.
- Show reward previews with base-pool odds and the player’s next-opening odds. Optional pity rules and unseen-reward preference can influence those odds.
- Enable discoveries, collection goals and opening milestones, with configurable bonus keys for the same crate.
- Configure a daily key claim and schedule reward pools with UTC season windows. Players can check lifetime or seasonal leaderboards. Leaderboards are read-only; automatic leaderboard payouts are not included.
- Reuse prepared reward data and menu items, bound cosmetic animation sampling, and avoid unnecessary hologram updates.
- Nearby-player checks run efficiently, idle particles have a global budget, and unused players no longer trigger repeating placeholder database queries.
- Performance settings control the visual update interval, idle particle budget and animation decoy sample. All configured rewards remain eligible to win; cosmetic limits do not change reward chances.
- Keys are charged and the selected outcome is saved before an animation begins. Closing the animation does not reroll that outcome.
- Players can collect pending rewards with /crates claim. Ambiguous external deliveries are held for staff review instead of automatically being paid again.
- SQLite works out of the box. Optional shared MySQL/MariaDB storage supports coordinated keys and openings across correctly configured servers. Follow the supplied network guide before changing storage.

Spoiler: Permissions
Get started in a few steps
- Trusted staff: covecrates.admin, or individual covecrates.editor, covecrates.givekey, covecrates.set, covecrates.reload and covecrates.audit permissions. Staff permissions default to operators.
- Players: covecrates.open, covecrates.preview, covecrates.history, covecrates.transfer and covecrates.daily. These default to true. Each crate can also require its own permission.
- Main command aliases include /crate, /covecrates and /cove.
- Put CoveCrates-0.8.2.jar in your server’s plugins folder and start the server. When updating, stop the server and replace the old JAR; keep your existing CoveCrates data folder.
- Run /crates editor. Choose a starter template or edit one of the supplied crates. Add rewards, preview the result, test the animation and publish.
- Choose Place in your world → Get a placeable crate chest, then place it down. You can also link an existing block.
- Open Keys and advanced tools to design or give keys. For a quick test, use /crates key physical <your-name> <crate> 1, then right-click your placed crate.
- Minecraft 1.19.4 and newer are accepted by default on Paper/Spigot after required startup API checks. No allow-untested-versions setting is needed. Later releases and server forks have not all been individually runtime-tested; Folia support is not included.
- The current release passed 230 runnable automated tests and live Paper 1.19.4 build 550 checks. Fifteen external-database tests were skipped. Earlier-release test history is included in the source package.
- Core crates, physical keys and native world displays do not need extra plugins. Money rewards require Vault plus a compatible economy provider. PlaceholderAPI is optional.
- Optional ItemsAdder and Oraxen adapters are available. Test your exact third-party plugin/version combination before relying on it. Custom model data needs your own matching resource pack; no pack is bundled.
Spoiler: About the performance comparison
Need help? For help, include your CoveCrates version, server build, Java version, the relevant console error and the steps to reproduce the problem. Remove passwords and database credentials from shared configuration.
In a local warmed opening/render-preparation comparison, 0.8.1 used about 85% less main-thread CPU time and 95% fewer allocated bytes than 0.8.0. Those optimizations remain in 0.8.2. The comparison used 48 rewards per crate and excluded SQL reservation/delivery. Results vary by hardware, workload and other plugins; this is not a server-wide CPU or TPS guarantee.
