GMCombat
Custom weapons, RPG abilities and an in-game editor for your Minecraft server.

Build weapons with their own abilities
Turn ordinary items into custom combat equipment. GMCombat lets administrators create weapons from an item held in the main hand, assign RPG abilities and adjust combat stats through an inventory-based editor.
Combine active skills, combat-triggered effects, mana costs and cooldowns to build equipment that suits your server. Four example weapons are included to help you get started.
Features
- Inventory-based weapon editor with an item preview.
- Six built-in abilities and seven activation triggers.
- Configurable ability power, mana costs and cooldowns.
- Mana regeneration and an ActionBar showing mana and the status of a bound skill.
- Bonus damage, maximum health, armor and critical hit stats.
- YAML item definitions and configuration.
- Four included weapon presets.
- English and Polish interface files, with support for custom translations.
- Optional PlaceholderAPI placeholders and ModelEngine animation integration.
Six built-in abilities
- Dash: launch the player in their facing direction.
- Lifesteal: restore a configured amount of health when activated with a target.
- Ignite: set a target on fire.
- Chain Lightning: damage a target and jump to nearby targets, with decreasing damage.
- Ground Slam: damage nearby living entities and apply knockback.
- Particle Beam: fire a particle-based beam that damages entities along its path and stops at solid blocks.
Activation triggers
Bind abilities to left-click, right-click, Shift + right-click, hitting an entity, receiving entity-caused damage, killing an entity or periodic activation.
Choose combinations that make sense for the ability: target-dependent abilities need an appropriate target. Mana costs and cooldowns apply when activation is attempted, even if an ability finds no target.
Weapon stats
Customize damage, maximum health, armor, critical hit chance and critical damage. Health and armor bonuses apply while the custom item is held in the main hand.
Commands
The main command is /gmcombat, with /gmc as its alias.
- /gmc — display command help.
- /gmc edit <id> — open the item editor. If the ID does not exist, create it from the item held in your main hand.
- /gmc give <player> <id> — give a registered combat item to an online player.
- /gmc delete <id> — delete an item definition from the registry.
- /gmc list — list registered combat items.
- /gmc reload — reload configuration, language files and item definitions.
Use a unique item ID such as stormblade. Tab completion is available for commands and registered item IDs.
Permissions
- gmcombat.admin — access to administration commands and the editor. Default: operators.
- gmcombat.use — permission to activate custom-item skills. Default: everyone.
In-game editor
Hold the base item and run /gmc edit <id>. Select a trigger and choose an ability, adjust its power, and customize the weapon stats. Save to write the definition and update the item in your main hand.
The GUI provides skill selection, power adjustments, stat editing and ModelEngine ID input. Mana costs and cooldowns can be customized in items.yml. GUI skill selection replaces the selected trigger's bindings with one ability; YAML can define multiple bindings.
Online configurator
Open the GMVoxora plugin configurator.
Sign in with Discord, select GMCombat, edit the available configuration templates and download your files. The configurator prepares files; it does not apply changes directly to your game server. Review the exported settings against your installed plugin version before using them.
Included weapon presets
- Voidblade: Dash and Ignite, with damage and critical hit bonuses.
- Sunforged Claymore: Ground Slam and Lifesteal, with health and armor bonuses.
- Thunderweaver Scepter: Particle Beam and Chain Lightning.
- Bloodthirster Scythe: Lifesteal on hit and Dash on kill.
Languages
English and Polish are included. Select the server-wide language through language in config.yml: en_US or pl_PL. You can add custom translation files to the plugin's locales directory. English is the default language.
Optional integrations
PlaceholderAPI exposes:
- %gmcombat_mana% — current mana.
- %gmcombat_max_mana% — maximum mana.
- %gmcombat_item_id% — the ID of the custom item held in the main hand, or none.
ModelEngine can play ability animations on an existing model assigned to the player. Animation names follow skill_<ability>, such as skill_dash. Models, animations and resource packs are not supplied or generated by GMCombat.
XSeries is bundled in the standard release JAR and does not need a separate installation.
Installation and requirements
1. Use Java 21 or newer and a Bukkit/Spigot-compatible server with an API supported by this build.
2. Stop the server and place GMCombat-1.0.0.jar in the plugins directory. Use the standard JAR, not the original- build artifact.
3. Install PlaceholderAPI or ModelEngine only if you intend to use those integrations.
4. Start the server and check the console for successful startup.
5. Review config.yml, items.yml and the locales directory.
6. Use /gmc list, then /gmc give <player> <id> to try an included item.
This build is compiled against Spigot API 1.20.4 and declares api-version: 1.13. Those values do not establish a tested Minecraft version range. Compatibility with specific server builds must be verified separately; Folia compatibility is not confirmed.
The plugin runs on the server; players do not need a client-side mod. Mana and cooldown profiles are held in memory and reset when a player leaves.
