Customize your Minecraft server with NastyColor! Give your players access to beautiful chat colors and name gradients, with configurable color options, permission-based access, and support for popular chat formatting and tab list plugins.
✨ Key Features
Player Commands
Permissions
NastyColor uses individual permissions for color selection.
Permission format:
Example: Granting Colors with LuckPerms
Give a player permission to use the junglegreen chat color:
/lp user PlayerName permission set nastycolor.chatcolor.junglegreen true
Give the same player permission to use the junglegreen name color:
/lp user PlayerName permission set nastycolor.namecolor.junglegreen true
Replace PlayerName with the player's Minecraft username.
Important: These permissions grant access to the specified color. The player must still select or equip it using the relevant NastyColor command/menu.
Rank-Based Color Permissions
You can also give a color to an entire rank:
/lp group vip permission set nastycolor.chatcolor.junglegreen true
/lp group vip permission set nastycolor.namecolor.junglegreen true
This allows members of the vip group to access these colors, provided your NastyColor permission checks and LuckPerms setup match these nodes.
What about OP players?
OP players can use colors when the plugin's permission defaults or operator permissions grant access. If you want to restrict colors to explicitly authorized players, configure the permissions accordingly and test with an OP account as well as a normal player.
Creating Custom Gradients
NastyColor lets server owners configure their own gradient colors instead of being limited to a fixed set of colors.
For example, you can create a Jungle Green gradient.
Example: junglegreen
Add the following entry to the relevant color section in your NastyColor configuration:
junglegreen:
material: green_candle
color: "#02DD1A,#0EDD2C,#0AA215,#066701"
shadow: false
Configuration options:
/lp user PlayerName permission set nastycolor.chatcolor.junglegreen true
/lp user PlayerName permission set nastycolor.namecolor.junglegreen true
Follow your installed NastyColor version's configuration structure and reload or restart the server as required.

These are example gradient entries. Place them under the same parent section as junglegreen in your actual configuration; do not replace the entire configuration file with these snippets.
Chat Color Integration
To display NastyColor's selected name color and chat color in chat, configure your compatible chat formatting plugin to use the NastyColor placeholders.
Example Chat Format
chat-format: "{prefix}%nastyname_color%&r &7» %nastycolor_chatcolor%{message}"
Placeholder breakdown:
[VIP] PlayerName » Hello everyone!
The player's name and message colors depend on their selected NastyColor options.
Note: The example uses the placeholder names and format syntax provided for this setup. Your chat plugin must support the relevant placeholders and formatting syntax. Placeholder support can vary by plugin.
Display Name Colors in the Tab List
To display the selected NastyColor name color in the tab list, add the following placeholder to your compatible tab formatting configuration:
customtabname: '%nastycolor_namecolor%'
This is a configuration example for a setup that supports customtabname. Your tab plugin may use a different setting name or require the player's actual name to be appended to the placeholder.
Make sure the relevant placeholder is registered and supported by your installed NastyColor version. If your tab plugin requires PlaceholderAPI, install and configure it as required by that integration.
