Moose roam the cold forests of your world. Bulls lock antlers in rut fights, cows lead their herds, and calves nurse from their mothers. Every moose is built to look and act like the real animal while still feeling like Minecraft.
Meet the moose
- Bulls: huge palmate antlers, a deep bellow, and a charge you don't want to be in front of
- Cows: no antlers, but they'll fight hard to protect their calves
- Calves: reddish-brown, wobbly and always close to the herd
Moose are neutral. Leave them alone and they leave you alone. Hit one, or hurt a calf near its mother, and you'll find out how hard a moose kicks.
Real moose behavior
- Herds: cows follow the oldest cow in the area, calves stick with the cows, and bulls wander alone
- Rut fights: when two bulls meet, they lower their heads, lock antlers and shove until one gives up. The loser runs off and the winner bellows
- Antler cycle: bulls shed their antlers, grow them back in velvet, then scrape the velvet off on trees
- Tree rubbing: bulls grind their antlers on logs, sending bark flying
- Nursing calves: calves walk under their mother to nurse, which helps them grow up faster
- Water feeding: moose wade into shallow water and dunk their heads to feed on water plants
- Grazing and browsing: they eat grass and pull leaves straight off the trees
- Sleeping: at night they kneel down and sleep, then get back up in the morning
- Strong swimmers: they cross lakes and rivers and never drown
Full of animation
Every moose moves with detailed walk, gallop, swim and attack animations. They also have 13 different idle animations, including scratching with a hind hoof, yawning, sneezing, stretching and shaking off. Bulls thrash their antlers, cows call to the herd, and calves frolic. Breathing, blinking, ear flicks and tail swishes keep them alive even when they're standing still.
Where to find them
Taiga, snowy taiga, groves, snowy plains and swamps, sometimes with a calf or two.
