Climate Survival
Heat and cold survival driven by biome and altitude. Climb snowy mountains and you freeze. Cross deserts, badlands, savannas and the Nether and you overheat. Keep warm, keep hydrated, or pay for it.
Minecraft: 26.3 (data pack format 121) · Side: server / singleplayer · Type: data pack
Freezing
- Applies in cold biomes, outdoors, above y=56: snowy plains, ice spikes, snowy taiga, snowy beach, snowy slopes, grove, frozen peaks, jagged peaks, frozen rivers and frozen oceans.
- After 120 seconds of exposure you take freeze damage and Weakness.
- A temperature bar appears after 20 seconds of exposure.
Stay warm with:
| Source | Range | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Full leather armor set | worn | immune while worn |
| Torch, fire, soul fire | 3 blocks | immune while nearby |
| Lit campfire | 4 blocks | Resistance for 5 minutes |
| Lit furnace, blast furnace, smoker | 3 blocks | Resistance for 8 minutes |
| Magma block, lava | 3 blocks | Resistance for 3 minutes |
Resistance doubles as cold immunity, so a good campfire stop lets you push on up the mountain.
Overheating
- Applies in hot biomes (desert, badlands, savanna) above y=56 outdoors, and everywhere in the Nether.
- Heat rises 1 per second: Hunger at 150, Slowness at 300, burn damage at 450.
- A temperature bar appears at 100 heat.
- Drink a potion or water bottle to remove 150 heat, or stand in water.
- Heat drops outdoors in neutral biomes and in caves, and holds still indoors.
Safe zones
Plains, forests, jungle, taigas and other neutral biomes, caves, and everything below y=56 are safe.
Extras
- Stackable water bottles: they stack to 16. Bottles in player inventories are converted automatically.
- Per-player bossbars for heat and cold, shown only to the affected player.
- Editable biome lists: change which biomes count as cold or hot in
data/highcold/tags/worldgen/biome/cold.jsonandhot.json, including biomes from other mods and datapacks.
Installation
Put the zip in your world's datapacks folder (or add it when creating a world) and run /reload.
Notes
- Creative and spectator players are unaffected.
- Water bottle stacking works by converting bottles every second, so a fresh bottle is unstackable for a moment and bottles in chests stay unstackable until picked up.
